It’s like the exact opposite of what happened to Nicky. Nicky was a legit wise guy out to take care of himself first, but not a rat, so the second he did some deceptive stuff in Florida they all suspected he flipped. Donnie wasn’t a wise guy so he showed Lefty true friendship and kindness, so even though the evidence was in front of his face he didn’t want to believe Donnie betrayed him, whereas with Nicky who was a true criminal, they KNEW he wasn’t to be trusted (because they’d all turn on each other if they got the chance).
