Long-suppressed ethnic rivalries between Serbs, Croats, Bosnians, and others were kept under control during President Tito's presidency. After his death, no single leader could maintain unity, allowing ethnic nationalism to re-emerge. During the 1980s, Yugoslavia suffered from severe inflation, high unemployment, and foreign debt, which strained relations between wealthier republics (like Slovenia and Croatia) and poorer ones, as richer regions resented supporting the federal government. The Balkan Wars were a complex culmination of long-suppressed nationalism in various republics. The Yugoslav Wars were a series of separate but related ethnic conflicts, wars of independence, and insurgencies that took place The former Yugoslavia was a Socialist state created after German occupation in World War II and a bitter civil war. Did the U.S. play any part in the war? Yes, the United States played a major role in the Yugoslav Wars, though its approach shifted drastically over time. Initially, Washington wanted to stay out of the conflict, but as atrocities escalated, the U.S. transitioned into the chief diplomatic broker and military powerhouse that ultimately brought the fighting to an end. ) Initial Reluctance (1991–1993)When Yugoslavia began fracturing in 1991, the U.S. initially opposed the breakup out of fear that it would destabilize Europe. U.S. Secretary of State James Baker famously summed up America's early stance by stating the U.S. did not "have a dog in that fight," choosing to let the European Union lead diplomatic efforts. While avoiding direct military intervention, the U.S. military helped enforce United Nations naval blockades, economic sanctions, and no-fly zones designed to contain the violence.. Intervention in the Bosnian War (1994–1995)As horrific images of ethnic cleansing, mass rape camps, and the Srebrenica genocide shocked the world, the Clinton administration came under intense international and domestic pressure to act. Operation Deliberate Force (1995): Following a deadly marketplace bombing in Sarajevo, the U.S. led a massive NATO aerial bombing campaign targeting Bosnian Serb military positions. The Dayton Accords: The U.S. leveraged this military pressure to force all sides to the negotiating table. Led by U.S. diplomat Richard Holbrooke, the Dayton Peace Accords were signed in Ohio in late 1995, successfully ending the war in Bosnia. The U.S. subsequently deployed thousands of peacekeeping troops to enforce the deal. The Kosovo War (1999)Four years after the Bosnian War ended, a new conflict erupted when Serbian forces under Slobodan Milošević began a violent crackdown on ethnic Albanians in the province of Kosovo. To prevent another full-scale genocide, the U.S. and NATO launched a 78-day air war directly against sovereign Serbian territory without UN Security Council authorization.Outcome: The intense bombing forced Milošević to withdraw his military from Kosovo. U.S. forces entered Kosovo immediately after as part of a massive NATO peacekeeping mission (KFOR) to stabilize the region.
Good movie though... enjoy 👍🏼
I served there as part of KFOR and I believe this is pretty accurate depiction of what could of happened if there were these circumstances.
May all war’s and all evil leave this planet for good!
Love & Peace
Yes like in France , etc. ?
Do you have tears for them too, or just politics?
