The 1890s Movie Machine That Started It All! 🎞️✨.

Ever wondered how people watched movies before digital screens and modern film projectors existed? 📽️✨
In this video, we take a look at the Mutoscope—the world’s earliest hand-cranked picture viewer, invented by Herman Casler in 1894 and patented in 1895.
💡 How it Works:
• Uses hundreds of individual picture cards arranged on a rotating cylinder.
• Flipping the hand crank rotates the cards rapidly in sequence.
• Thanks to the persistence of vision effect, these static images seamlessly create a moving animation—just like a massive 3D flipbook!
• Built-in lighting and magnifying lenses let viewers watch the short film inside arcade halls, boardwalks, and bars.
Back in an era when even photography was rare, this simple mechanism was a mind-blowing visual experience that laid the groundwork for today’s film industry!
