Idk, and 5 years isn’t even really that bad of an age gap in of itself.

Is it somewhat questionable? Sure.

Is it inherently a bad age gap? Not really, especially since they both got together when they were adults

Well 5 or 6 years isn't that much of an age gap. I honestly thought she was older considering she was a queen. Can you imagine her telling someone I met my husband when he was nine and I was queen of my entire planet.

As the original storyboards clearly show, Ani was a young teenager before the casting stage, when George shifted the character to a more pure and innocent cherub.

I'd be willing to bet that scenes in the novel are based on the earlier concept, with Ani's age adjusted to match later. Brooks' rather good book includes a lot of additional sequences and what would become deleted scenes.

It's been a long time since I read the novelization of the movie, but the way I remember it, it was even more than that. He doesn't just think she's pretty, like his reaction in the movie. He RECOGNIZES her, because he's had dreams (Force visions, but he doesn't know that yet) of her for years. He already knows they will eventually be married the second he meets her.
