To be fair, there's almost no character in Jurassic franchise use gun to take down a dinosaur, so you can't just saying Jurassic is nonsense without proofs.
I know the troops that hunt Indom used guns and other weaponry, but Indom is pretty smart to avoid all the shots. The only dumb thing is that the military never even bothering the dinosaurs roaming the earth
Edit: are these people forgot the movies, or they simply didn't watch it? Because there's ALMOST no human use any gun to take those lizards down. I've already watch all the movies and no one, Literally ALMOST NO ONE uses guns. You people try to offend a movie about genetically modified monsters that try to look and act like dinosaurs, while the other movie is literally about aliens stuck in a prehistoric world bringing advance weaponry

@arroncunningham9866YouTube
In the Jurassic Park book, it's established that a combination of bone density and low blood pressure makes conventional firearms mostly useless against even the Velociraptor. Even brain shots aren't guaranteed to bring them down quick.
Which is why Muldoon had a rocket launcher.
edit: people weren't understanding what I meant, so I posted an expansion. I'll move it to here:
When I said "mostly useless" I mean it's likely the animal will manage to strike you before dying.
Bone density it a real issue, a number of large animals alive right now are similar. The bones deflect or slow even some hunting calibers, making it hard to kill quickly without precise shooting (something hard to do if your life is on the line).
The blood pressure thing is the dinosaurs don't bleed right. Even artery hits take minutes to bleed out (quote: Slow bleeders, slow to die). So multiple surface strikes don't stop them from reaching strike distance.
Basically, anything big enough to guarantee a kill is to difficult to use consistently "in the field" and everything else wouldn't bring them down before they threaten the shooter.
That's why Muldoon insisted on the rocket launcher. Small enough to be mobile, strong enough to stop them quick.
[It's also useful for tranquilizing the larger animals. Those darts they were using in The Lost World movie were about the size you'd need for an elephant, but the Tyranosaur alone is like 4 times more massive then that. They actually tranq the adult using a modified rocket round in the book]

๐ 332026/09/30
@vishnu79YouTube
Not analogous, though. Most of the sauropods and other 4-legged ones have fairly heavily reinforced bone structures to support their weight and they didn't need to move (comparatively) fast. However, the various theropods, including the T-Rex and raptors, have a comparatively lightly built endoskeleton to save weight and assist with running.
Modern crocodilians are actually more heavily built (relative to size) than most of the 2-legged predatory dinosaurs including T-Rex and the various flavors of raptors.
Kentucky Ballistics did an episode using a realistically-made T-Rex head using reinforced fiberglass for the skeletal frame and ballistic gel for the soft tissues to simulate an adult T-Rex head, and while most pistols aren't going to do much, most long guns can hurt it or outright kill it, especially if you get into the 30-06 and 308's.
Lastly, it's an animal. Unless something is terribly wrong, like rabies or similar with it, or it's literally starving, any animal is going to try to flee after a certain amount of damage has been inflicted. It may not comprehend WHAT is hurting it, but after a certain point, it will always attempt to flee the area rather than stay and fight unless it has some overriding reason not to, like offspring (and not always even then) or it thinks it can't escape.

As a heads up, due to the square cubed law, a sufficiently massive creature will not gain equivalent durability. Past the size of about a Bison, animals are no longer stronger the larger they are. There's a reason why you can kill a whale with just harpoons.
In the same vein, Dinosaurs are in the avian family, and the larger ones would have less muscles and bone density the bigger they got due to the aforementioned square cubed law, they can only be so dense before there's no organic structure that can support its own weight.
What I'm getting at is: A shotgun blast would heavily injure a t-rex and likely rip a hole straight through it if you were using buckshot at the least.
Heavy Caliber Antimaterial rounds such as .50 BMG would decimate the jurassic park creatures, but those may not be common.
Its important to realize even a 9mm is such a force multiplier you'd be able to defeat everything but the gators given enough ammunition.

Ballistics would work but its difficult to aim and fire. Mechanical armour and organised militaries are what make mankind an apex predator vs dinosaurs. Also, not every firearm has the destructive force of a .50 cal rifle...... only like 2 or 3 people in he entire franchise had high powered rifles, and even then only 1 or 2 of them used it. Everyone here is just blowing it out their ends lol. Theyโve calculated likely what would be needed to pierce and likely damage an animal the size of a T. rex. And while shot placement would matter, turns out all youโd need is 5.56.
A .308 alone would be sufficient. A normal shotgun slug would be plenty and then some.

Elephants have been hunted with a single shot by smaller rifle calibers like 7mms with good shot placement using knowledge of their anatomy. Naturally, that goes out the window when the elephant is already charging at the shooter. More firepower compensates for less finesse.

Even certain modern animals can be difficult to take down with guns. A predator that's evolved to hunt massive prey and fight each other would probably be tough enough to tank a lot, too

Where, exactly was in the Jurassic franchise where a dino shrugged off gunfire? The only time I remember someone actually trying with an actual gun is Roland Tembo with an elephant gun and that was sabotaged by Nick Van Owen (he removed the slugs from the shells). Makes the "bulletproof dino" argument piss poor when no bullets were involved. And btw, the gun in the video is basically a mini railgun, many magnitudes more powerful than any gun we have.

I was going to point out how bad end of oak Street was with dinosaurs ignoring gunshots, but the comments are convincing there might be some merit especially to large dinosaurs just shrugging off imprecise shots. However I'll still argue even if that is the case, realistically I would think the pain of a gunshot would show the animal that you aren't worth the trouble, especially a large carnivore that you would just be a little snack to

Kentucky ballistics tested this off the current projection with a customer t rex mold. The first rounds that even touched the skull was a 416 Rigby and a 50 bmg. Everything lighter would just piss it off more

There was nothing actually realistic about 65โs dinosaurs. They were either species not found in the geographic location this is set in, didnโt exist in that era, were way oversized, didnโt look anything like the actual species they supposedly were, or didnโt exist at all. They legit made species up for this film.

Bullets wouldnโt harm a dinosaur unless they were big enough to really take a chunk of flesh with them. Atleast not harm them enough for a lethal takedown if there chasing you

I think its safe to say any railgun especially fictional would absolutely have more zip then your average 50 cal. We have prototype railguns in real life, although they are mostly for like navy ships. But a rail guns basic concept really puts most ballistics to shame. A bullets nice but it a piece of rebar flying at mach fuck is not gonna be stopped by much.

I'm not saying people CAN'T take down bears or that civilians don't have strong enough guns, but they are known to take handgun and some rifle rounds to the face and keep going
Shooting it a bunch.
Letโs be real, unless her skeleton is hardened steel and skin/flesh is Kevlar made for bullets, sheโd die in seconds from bullets depending on where they hit and what bullets.
No I like Jurassic world, never claimed otherwise.
You just made a claim I disagreed with.
Answer is no to both, but now thatโs certainly an idea for a horror dinosaur game: dinosaurs with rabies.
So he was packing more heat than an AR15
...
...wonder how they'd taste?
~Dean Pelton
Imagine something bigger and with scales
What we find are dinosaurs fossils
Which is basically rock shaped liked dinosaur bones due to the way it is formed
A .308 alone would be sufficient. A normal shotgun slug would be plenty and then some.
Also this guy has advanced technology.
