The poison might be introduced inside the airlock, not in the outside air
When cleaners leave Silo 18, they're sprayed with something before the outer door opens. One theory is that this process introduces a lethal substance, which then reaches their bodies through the suit's weak tape seals. Juliette survives because Walker gives her better tape.

Thank you, my pet peeve is that nobody seems to have noticed the yellow powder when they leave the silo, the same powder that the drones dropped while they were shooting the people from silo 17. Maybe its too obvious?? I would point out, that because the pipe in silo 17 was crimped shut, and capped, the silo 17 people were able to leave without being poisoned by that powder.

@jc478Ohh, I didn't even think about the yellow powder! That actually makes sense, especially with the pipe in Silo 17 being sealed. But if that's the poison, why spray it inside the airlock before they even open the outer door? Makes me wonder if the whole cleaning process is just a way to get the poison through the suit's seals.

@tankZshorts_4x The only ones that go out that airlock to the outside were cleaners, and they were sent out, on a death sentence. No one was ever meant to leave. The name of the first book is WOOL, and its meaning isn't because they used wool to clean, it is a acronym WOOL World Order Operation 50 (the roman numeral for 50 is L. I also strongly stand by that Silo 1 does not know why they are doing what they do, they have had their memories wiped and are programmed...but there is a hidden silo, there is 51, and I think its under that tear drop shape, at the end of the long path, where the cars parked when they came to tour the silo's Its shaped like a tear drop, with grass planted in it, there is no high berm around it, like the silo's because the entrance is hidden. there was a road around it. Go look for the film footage, showing all of the silo's from above, and it starts there. Before Bernard was sent out, he told someone that there were 50 silo's, then corrected himself, and said well 51, I think he alluded to it not being used or something. Not sure if he is or not, but I think Silo one, found out about his plans, and causing the bomb that locked them inside, and rose up, and took over. But its possible that silo 51 is watching over silo 1. I can't wait to see the last season.
