Na Hong-jin, director of The Wailing, returns with Hope, a Korean sci-fi horror film that completely flips the perspective of an alien movie.

It’s strange, violent, funny and deliberately exhausting. Some of the digital creature effects didn’t work for me, but the practical effects are fantastic. And that ending? It might be the best ending I’ve seen all year.

Yes! The more I thought about that ending, the more I loved it. For me, it wasn’t just an ending I could accept. It’s what made the whole movie click. I completely understand why it won’t work for everyone, but I wouldn’t change it.

I think that’s the heart of the movie. The humans are attacking what they believe is the villain, while the aliens are searching for their prince and believe they’ve landed in a hostile world. Both sides think they’re defending themselves. So who’s actually the monster?

I knew going into this movie that the director has the movie slated for a 3 part series and that the scripts for part 2 and 3 are already done. The sequels will depend on how the first one goes. The ending didn't hit me as hard as it did others. I walked out of the theater wanting the sequels to finish the story lines.

That makes a lot of sense. I went in not knowing about the larger plan, so the ending hit me very differently. What surprised me is that after thinking about it, I almost don’t want the story to be finished. There’s something powerful about both sides being left with their own understanding of what happened. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts!

One of THE BEST movies I’ve ever watched!

An incredible story, exceptional characters, insanely fun comedy, and some absolutely brutal violence this movie has it ALL. It does feel a little long at times, but honestly, I didn’t care.

I walked out of the theater thinking, “WTF did I just watch?!” and I mean that in the BEST possible way!

Absolutely bonkers, wildly entertaining, and unforgettable. 10/10 from me!

(Recommended watch ScreenX, but any good screen with good sound should do the job)

저는 Hope의 여러 매력 중 하나가 그 마지막 장면에 있다고 봅니다..성경구절까지 나오죠..아무튼 마베이요와 조르가 함께 만들어내는 그 장면이,상당히 미적으로 뛰어났어요.그때,배경까지..스포가 되니까 자세하게 표현은 못하지만.
외계인은 멈추어 섰는데,인간들은 쉬지 않고 달려야 했죠..감독이 마지막 장면에 갑자기 철학적 의미를 담은 거죠.

I have been disappointed so many times with to be continued that I wasn’t with this ending. A HELL of a part one. I will wait for part 2, knowing that the quality in this can only get better or just as good. Great review

For me, science fiction is interesting when it presents a universe that gradually builds a set of rules that give meaning to the story. However, the typical deus ex machina elements of this genre are rarely absent. Nevertheless, when this device is overused, it destroys the entire narrative and completely eliminates intrigue, wonder, and fear. And, in my opinion, that is this film's mistake.

So far your review feedback is the best. However the characters lack intellect. Given that it is heavily rumoured that this is going to be a trilogy and this first installation is based on the perspective of the humans then it should be like A Quiet Place 1. The people encountering this monster just trying to survive fighting the one monster trying to find the baby and it should have ended with them finding out that one of the villager had actually kidnapped and frozen the young emperor. And instead of having the mothership crash into earth it should have been like the mothership suffered technical problems and crash landed on the moon or the other planets in the solar system and in a desperate attempt to save the heir apparent, the empress escape through an escape pod with some loyal servants which eventually crash landed on earth.

yeah, I think it absolutely did work. if you remember Kingdom of the planet of the apes, where Noah looked through the telescope... you knew that he knew that the humans were coming.. this is not exactly the same ending but you know those aliens are now trapped on Earth, no way to get back home but somehow we know they're going to make it home, hopefully because now we understand the aliens our heart is for them..the ending is perfect.
