They Castrated the Men So the Slave Trade Never Stopped | The Arab slave trade | transsaharan trade

Do you know why there are so few Black communities in the Arab world today?

The Arab slave trade lasted more than a thousand years — far longer than the transatlantic trade. Millions of Africans were taken across the Sahara and the Indian Ocean.

Many of the men and boys were castrated. The death rate from this procedure was extremely high. Those who survived could not have children. Because the enslaved population could not reproduce, traders had to keep returning to Africa for more people.

This history is rarely taught. But it is part of our story.

To the African diaspora in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Canada, Australia and other high-support regions — your views and shares help this truth travel further.

It is time we know the full history.
It is time we speak it.
