In movies, one lighter sets off every sprinkler in the building. In real life? Only the one right above the fire. 💦🔥

Each sprinkler has its own tiny glass bulb full of liquid. At about 68°C (155°F) the liquid expands and shatters the glass, so a fire only opens the sprinkler right above it. In 4 out of 5 fires, just one goes off (NFPA).
