The most paused scene in cinematic history wasn't in the script — and the true story behind it is one of Hollywood's most notorious backstage betrayals.

In 1992, director Paul Verhoeven convinced Sharon Stone to take off her underwear on the set of Basic Instinct, swearing: "Nothing will be visible on camera." Here is the unbelievable story of how a furious Sharon Stone almost blocked the movie's release — and how it ended up making her the highest-paid actress on Earth.
