This film is based on a true story. Katherine Johnson did calculations for early human spaceflights including Alan Shepard’s flight as the first American in space in 1961 and John Glenn’s three orbits of Earth in 1962. She calculated the backup navigation charts on which Mercury astronauts would rely in case the guidance electronics in their capsules failed.

theres a good reason why they waited to make this movie until the women it was based on were all dead. and its because even they would have been offended by this borderline fantasy.

@Andjzel yes. i am. this movie is an insult to history and the treatment of the women depicted was heavily dramatized. as were the contributions said women made. literally jus go do some actual research into what this movie is about instead of taking everything it tries to tell you at face value.
