Surah Al Baqarah (2:150)
๐ Translation:
150. And from wherever you (O Muhammad) come forth, turn your face towards the Sacred Mosque [314]. And wherever you [believers] may be, turn your face towards it so that people will not have any argument [315] against you, except for those who are unjust [316]. So fear them not but fear Me alone. And it is so that I may complete My favor upon you and that you may be guided [317].

๐ Commentary of Surah Al-Baqarah โ Verse 150
"And from wherever you (O Muhammad) come forth, turn your face towards the Sacred Mosque [314]. And wherever you [believers] may be, turn your face towards it so that people will not have any argument [315] against you, except for those who are unjust [316]. So fear them not but fear Me alone. [314] Facing the Ka'bah: Time, Place, and Universality
The phrase
"from wherever you come forth"
can be understood in
three contextual dimensions
:
Time-based interpretation
:
O Beloved Prophet ๏ทบ,
whenever you leave
your place (at any time), face the
Ka'bah
.
This shows that
facing the Qibla is not restricted
to specific timesโit is continuous and binding.
Place-based interpretation
:
The first verse may refer to
locations within Madinah
, while this verse expands to
outside Madinah
, including
deserts, jungles, or while traveling
.
Audience-based interpretation
:
The
first address
was directed
specifically to the Holy Prophet ๏ทบ
This verse addresses the
entire Muslim Ummah
, commanding all believers to
face the Ka'bah
regardless of their location
๐ These perspectives are complementary, not contradictory.
โ
[315] Ending the Argument of the Idolaters
Before this command, the
idolaters of Makkah
raised an objection:
โHow can Muhammad claim to be on the religion of Ibrahim (AS) but not face the same Ka'bah that Ibrahim built?โ
This verse
nullifies their argument
:
Now that Muslims
face the Ka'bah
, the
hypocrites and idolaters
have
no basis
for objection
โ
[316] Taunts of the Unjust Are to Be Ignored
Despite the clarity of the truth, there will always be
those who mock
:
These
โunjustโ
people will
still raise baseless objections
Their taunts are
not to be taken seriously
๐ก๏ธ
Lesson
:
In matters of
Deen
,
ignore reproach
and
continue upon the Sunnah
A person who
revives a forgotten Sunnah
receives
reward equal to 100 martyrs
, as
he bears continued abuse
while remaining firm on the path of truth
โ
[317] Completion of Divine Favour Upon the Believers
The
change of Qibla
from
Jerusa...
