Dua-e-Qunoot | Meaning, Virtues & When to Recite 🤍
Have you ever wondered what you are actually asking Allah when you recite Dua-e-Qunoot?
Dua-e-Qunoot is a beautiful supplication recited during the Witr prayer. Its words teach us to turn to Allah for guidance, well-being, protection, blessings and His care.
THE STORY BEHIND THIS DUA
Hazrat Hasan ibn Ali (رضي الله عنهما) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught him certain words to recite during the Witr prayer.
This beautiful supplication is recorded in Jami' at-Tirmidhi and Sunan Abi Dawud.
WHEN SHOULD WE RECITE IT?
Dua-e-Qunoot is recited during the Witr prayer. According to the Hanafi method, it is recited in the third rak'ah, after Surah recitation and before Ruku.
WHAT ARE WE ASKING ALLAH THROUGH THIS DUA?
🤍🌸 Guidance: We ask Allah to guide us among those He has guided and keep us on the straight path.
🤍🌷 Well-being: We ask Him for safety, protection and well-being.
🤍 🌹His Care: We ask Allah to take us under His care and protection.
🤍 🌿Blessings: We ask Him to put barakah in everything He has bestowed upon us.
🤍 🌺Protection from Harm: We seek His protection from the evil of what He has decreed.
🤍 ✨Trust in Allah: We acknowledge that Allah alone has the ultimate authority over all matters. No one can overrule His decree.
🤍 ☀Honour and Support: We acknowledge that whoever Allah supports will never be humiliated, and whoever He opposes cannot attain true honour.
😍THE BEAUTY OF THIS DUA
Through these words, we remind ourselves that we need Allah in every aspect of our lives — for our guidance, our well-being, our blessings and our protection.
We may not always know what is best for us, but Allah knows what is best for His creation.
May Allah guide our hearts, grant us well-being, bless everything He has given us, protect us from harm and keep us under His care. Ameen. 🤲🏻

In the Hadith narrated by Hasan ibn Ali (RA), the Prophet ﷺ taught this dua using singular words, such as اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِي (Allahumma ihdini), meaning “O Allah, guide me.” You may also find the plural form اهْدِنَا (ihdina), meaning “Guide us.” The difference is that ihdini is a personal supplication (“guide me”), while ihdina is a collective supplication (“guide us”). The Hadith wording is ihdini.
