Girl was wrong and the parents were wrong, “I don’t think it’s a good idea for victor to be adopted” is just a crazy sentence, no matter how bad the parenting is, it’s reflected on both the parents and the child, the child is the one acting it out

This is why people say when you give your child everything they want and you don't focus more on what they need, you will cripple that child in life. They will expect everything they want, when they want it, exactly as they want it, and expect everyone else to sort out their own mess they create for themselves. You must NEVER raise your kids to believe that everything in life is a reward. Raise them to understand that when they work hard to earn something, they can achieve it, but never expect everything that want to be handed over, and that their actions will always have a consequence when they act out.

The little girl is being defiant and acting out for attention; expected under the circumstances. She needs to be able to express how she feels; However, she cannot be allowed to act out by hitting her parents and adopted brother. Nor can she throw tantrums without consequences. She needs to spend time with her brother. He’s not the enemy. She needs to connect with his story and realize that because she was there first, she has more responsibility to make him feel comfortable at home. She needs to be part of the process of helping him integrate into the family. She must not be allowed to feel entitled to be hateful.

I do think that the girl is a spoiled brat, but also. It's the parents' fault. They gave her EVERYTHING she wanted. And everything went her way. So, she became a spoiled brat. And because of that. Once they were trying for another child. She felt the need to want attention because she wasn't getting as much as she used to. That made her become an even bigger spoiled brat. But the parents should have gave her more attention and she should have had a nice, CALM talk about it rather than screaming and being mad. So, I think it's quite literally everyone's fault. The girl for not acting correctly in the situation (Staying calm and quiet rather than mad and loud), and the parents for not giving her as much attention after adopting the boy.

From the multiple videos I’ve seen this is the basic premise:

Sydney was an only child who was spoiled as a little girl, as her dad has emotional management issues and her mother works late nights. Eventually, when she was older, the lack of actual parenting caught up and she turned out a brat. After a few drinks, the father suggested trying with another kid. The mother takes it as an unfunny joke but the two end up deciding to go through with it. They go to an adoption center and find Victor, a young boy who was ab**ed in his old home. They brought him in as foster to see how he would fit in with the family. However, as the time passed, they couldn’t see that Victor was taking advantage of the pity they felt for him, but Syd could. Eventually, after they miss her first recital despite her mother promising to drop her shift for it, she gets upset. This only gets worse when the mother drops a shift for Vic’s first baseball game. As compensation, the parents said that they would go skating with her after the game. However, the baseball team ends up inviting Vic to go eat at a burger place and they take that up instead. This lack of empathy for their daughter and emotional neglect and favouritism ends up sending Syd over the edge and she attempts to run away. Only after she pointed out how they don’t listen to their own daughter anymore do they realize they forgot they have to still be her parents and support her as much as they do Vic. Syd still holds this grudge over Vic, even as they decide to adopt him. She doesn’t blame her parents entirely, like she should, she blames Victor, as it’s when he entered that her attention was gone.

EDIT: I realized that my last sentence might sound a bit confusing. I’m saying that she should be blaming her parents for their views, not victor. Not that she is rightfully blaming him. Also, I am not saying Syd was behaving properly, but that there was reason behind it. We all have moments where some major change happens and we don’t know what to do. For a little kid, it’s even more challenging, as they haven’t learned to cope properly. All Syd knows is that her parents adore and glorify Vic while they yell at and punish her.

Yeah from what I’ve seen in a lot of clips and read in comments, they spoiled her a lot. They didn’t spend a whole lot of time with her but “ made up for it” by buying things and letting her win at stuff and everything thing else to spoil her. They then adopted a new kid, the boy victor, and she suddenly had to share everything. They gave him a lot of attention and care( which he did 100% need and deserved like all kids) and when she got jealous and mad about having to share for the first time ever she then started acting as shown and got actually punished for basically the first times.

Her whole world got thrown upside down and she keeps getting treated like the bad guy is her perspective. The parents dug this pit they’re in and it isn’t easy to get out of

Context is so important. In the first clip, yeah she was being a spoiled brat. But the second clip onwards? Her parents adopted a boy named Victor and started completely neglecting her; Victor was allowed to not eat dinner, when they told him to put his plate in the dishwasher he instead turned the TV on, yet when she questioned this the mom told her to shut up. The mom then couldn’t make it to the daughter’s recital because of work, but the second the son said he had a baseball game coming up the mom dropped everything and the parents went to it. They promised the girl that after the game they’d go skating like she wanted - they then went back on it because “oh Victor wants to go to eat with the team”. In general the parents on this show are all awful

Plot: Two people failed to be good parents so now they're stuck with kids who hate them. Can they learn to stop being assholes and be better? Absolutely not. Does anybody like them? Not even a little. Do you wish those kids could be loved by anyone else? Hell yes!

It’s scary how many people would resort to whooping a child instead of seriously talking to her about her issues and thoughts and finding a solution together, and sticking to it (which her parents failed to do). Especially with such a smart kid. One important aspect is that she lost trust towards her parents, and whooping her ass is only gonna further the distrust. I can say from personal experience that the whooping is definitely one of the reasons why don’t have a relationship with my family right now.

@NailahMinos i saw somebody reply to your comment asking you if you watched the show and i wanted to tell you, that question wasnt valid, but i also wanted to tell you, the way you are seeing this is not valid either. i would like to answer some of the things you said:
first of all: yeah, thats true, she has been rude to victors friends, specially victor, but theres a very clear reason to it and that is because of the way she is seen as the bad child. after an argument between the little girl and the parents, the parents considered her a spoiled child and instead of trying to comunicate they decided to adopt a child which they raise as a king. thats a very unprofessional thing to do, especially as a parent because it shows the child that they dont care about the way she feels, but they care about the way she acts (which is influenced by the way she feels)
second of all, you said that bad behaviour should not be rewarded, which is actually a realistic thing to say but in this case its wrong because, as i said, the actions are definetely influenced by the way the person is feeling, which means that if the person is seen as a bad person he is obviously going to get mistreated, and that will influence the way hes acting which will make him be seen as the bad person even more.
and the reason why i am writing this whole paragraph over a damn yt comment, its because you can NOT be this emotionally dumb AND this loud, so before you say something, rethink it THRICE

@K1d_v4mp1r3_XD firstly it’s not a movie. It’s a TV show., second the parents didn’t neglect her at all. They were always there for her., thirdly she’s just a spoiled brat, the second the parents weren’t able to give her an ounce of time she began to act out. Any normal kid wouldn’t behave like that. She was so bad and spoiled. It caused their parents to divorce.

To give you a quick rundown of the whole series—which is called *Parenthood*—everyone gets a "happy ending" in the end. I’ll tell you right now: these two aren't good parents. Even though the show tries to sell them as such by the end—and there’s a sort of semi-reconciliation with their daughter—they never actually address the fact that they basically neglected her in favor of Victor and their own needs during the whole near-divorce storyline (and yes, they end up staying together anyway). They even go on to adopt more children, yet they never deal with the trauma they inflicted on their daughter by sidelining her for another child, nor the consequences of that—because there were consequences. Anyway, Sydney never gets an arc where her parents actually admit they screwed up; the series just wraps up with them getting their "happy ending" because the director wanted everyone to have a sappy happy ending, regardless of whether they were actually bad parents and being will reward by adopting more children.

I would watch the show first because I’ve seen clips of these and these parents literally give the adopted child more attention than their biological child, which is why she’s mad she’s their biological child that barely gets any attention, and Victor is their adopted child that gets a lot more attention than her, you should watch the clip where she tries to run away, and then she confronts her parents for not giving her attention and giving her adopted more attention than her

I think she didn't get to go skating because she literally threw her drink at Victor. That was in the clip. It was right after that that her mom said "we're not going skating". She could've waited until after the meal to go skating and instead she got aggressive. If she'd been nice, they would've gone skating after the meal. You don't reward bad behavior.

@Tai@TailsFanectfully, I’ve been seeing clips from this show for weeks now and the parents were supposed to take her skating, they said “yes after Victor’s game”. Then after the game it was “oh but he wants to go out with the team”. There are multiple instances before this where they clearly favour the adopted boy over Sydney, such as letting him be rude with no consequence, letting him watch TV when he’s not supposed to, telling her to shut up when she speaks etc.
👍 02026/09/19
@TailsFan
@TailsFanYouTube
@alwaysahiccupandastrid I'm aware of that, but this is one instance where I think that her losing the skating was warranted, because she directed her anger at her brother and his team and acted on it by throwing her drink at him. Just because the parents suck in general, it doesn't mean they aren't right to punish her with taking away skating altogether for what she did. If they'd gone skating before eating, then they'd just end up with complaints about people being hungry, honestly, and leaving early. And she'd throw a fit about that, too, because how dare her brother's empty stomach after his game be more important than her skating for fun. No, in this case, she was the one in the wrong. It's perfectly normal for people to go out to each after a long game, and maybe the parents should've planned on it and said "we go to the game, then eat, then go skating", but she still acted wrong in this case and got rightfully punished for it. No skating, they're just going straight home, because that's how you treat kids that throw drinks at people because they didn't get to go do what they wanted this very second.

TLDR; I know the parents suck, but this is one instance where they actually did parenting right and punished one of their kids for doing something wrong. Just because it's the usual punching bag of the show, it doesn't mean they were wrong to punish her.
