I have a different theory that I don’t think anyone else thought of, they may look like portals but what if they’re not, we hear the other ships lock onto quill’s ship, what if he’s not actually making portals but instead he’s making wall breaches that temporarily remove the material between both ships and seals them together, almost like a door, he wouldn’t need a sling ring for that and it would practically look the same

Being a powerful sorcerer is not determined by how many or how little tools they use, its determined by how vast thier knowledge is in the mystic arts. If someone can achieve the same results with a tool ,vs someone can achieve the same results without, and with both having the same efficiency, neither is better or worse, they simply differ in weather or not they prefer to use it or not. Basically whatever they feel comfortable doing or using.
