The first movie is one of Pixar's best, I'd stand it next to the likes of Toy Story and Wall-E no problem. Maybe it's a cultural thing because it's based in their version of America with a lot of American actors.

The bland world building was certainly not good but it was a symptom of the core issue, not the issue itself

Cars was barely more than a collection of silly puns and rehashed plot contrivances. That's all well and good for a young kid, but set it up side by side with Toy Story or Finding Nemo and it's kind of painful how drastic the difference in writing quality is.

I don't think this makes this movie bad. Lots of movies do this. Look at Blue sky Studios Robots. That movie was full of just Robots. We never get a exclamation of why there no humans. It's just Robots.

One thing I will say about the movie. Is I like how it's built on the historical Route 66.

"Unanswered questions" that you aren't supposed to ask. Cars was working within it's own principles, Cars 2 was when these questions started being asked, because Cars 2 broke the world's rules.
