I saw this in the cinema, and I will say that when he hits the dino with the sledgehammer is not when the atmosphere changes, the whole movie up until this point was part-comedy.

They catch you off guard with this moment though because you’re not expecting him to actually knock out a dinosaur, but then he actually manages to and everyone laughs and lets their guard down and then in that exact same moment they suddenly kill him off, that’s the part where the atmosphere suddenly shifted temporarily at least in the screening I saw.

Movie was fine up until this point. Like how are you going to make a semi-lighthearted movie about a family coming together to fix their problems and surivive then kill the DAD who is the ONLY competent person?
Not only is it just completely out of left field, as the overall tone never even indicated that any of the cast would die, but then literally 30s afterwards the family is just like, "meh dads dead, lets go home".
Then the ending was just omg bad. Like it went from "replaced in time" to a "paradoxical time traval" in which they spawn in just to steal their "other selves" dad and then watch as their town, along with versions of themselves, get sent back forever and the og family just adopts their own lives. It's just dumb and another example of Hollywood writers having NO FCKING IDEA how to end movies anymore.

if you really think about it its a really effective weapon against the dinosaur you could use a sledge hammer like a ankylosaurus tail aiming at weak spots like its leg or cracking bones most animals of today hate a challenge if they see you as even a remote threat they usually back off knocking out a allosaurus could be possible but very dangerous and highly unlikely he couldve just broke the allos leg our cracked it just enough to where it cant put its body weight on it rendering it unable to hunt
