I’ve loved the Superman family for seven decades — literally. In the 50s, I watched every George Reeves episode, and although the low-budget show was often campy, it nailed Clark’s personality. Christopher Reeve also understood the character. In the comics, I got to know and love his cousin, Kara — in those days, she was not as sad as the current version. Or bitter.
But when Supergirl stabbed the already injured villain (twice!) I was dismayed. I get the anger/revenge trope, but I’m still not convinced it was an intelligent choice on the part of the movie makers. Not only did it veer away from the long history of Supergirl, it failed the (superior) source material that inspired it.
But I still love Clark, Kara — and your excellent reactions. ❤
Superman the movie
Superman II (there's a second restored cut....director was changed midway through...ids suggest a patreon poll)
(Maybe superman returns....could be interested in what you think after watching immediately after superman II...another poll?)
Great superman TV...
Smallville ( the story of young Clark Kent before....everything. Be warned it's 220 x 45 min episodes)
Superman and Lois (4 seasons, about 50 eps....very underrated series. Was one of the last CW productions and often gets ignored as there was a bit of viewer burnout...however this was a completely separate series continuity wise, even though it reused the actors cast as Lois and Clark for the pretty good Supergirl TV series).
If you like manga/animation that's where superman really shines:
My Adventures with superman
Superman the animated series (this is one of those golden rabbit hole shows....before you know it you'll be watching, and loving, the batman adventures, batman beyond and the Justice League Adventures.
Superman man of tomorrow
The death and return of superman (two linked animated movies)
The death of superman (an earlier animated film with a very different conclusion)
The legion of superheroes..(the 2 season series, not the Supergirl TV movie)
I'm sure there's more that I've forgotten.
If you fancy seeing where it all began check out the early 1940's flesher cartoons (about 10 min each).
Shame as Terri is wonderful in the role
Similar monster-of-the-week/growing up stories, but with a teenage alien in Kansas.
There’s also some really fun guest stars from Buffy and other shows you watch that pop up in it!
Superman vs. the Elite
Superman: Man of Tomorrow (2020; not to be confused with the live-action film Man of Tomorrow, which is currently in production)
Superman: The Animated Series
My Adventures With Superman
Superman & Lois
Superman: The Movie
Superman: Unbound
(the first couple of episodes or so of) Superman (1948 serial)
(the first couple of episodes or so so of) Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman
What not to watch:
Man of Steel, mainly. (It just gave a lot of people the wrong idea of what Superman is about, so it's not a great place to start digging into the history of the character.)
As for Supergirl...unfortunately there isn't that much great Supergirl stuff to watch. There was a TV series that had some high points, but most of them were in season 4. She's popped up in some Superman cartoons and things, and she had a prominent role in "Superman/Batman: Apocalypse".
I like this Supergirl movie more than the 2025 Superman movie; love it's settings, creatures/beings are more creative, excellent Supergirl performance, great actions, ... overall, I found this one more entertaining! 😉

You should read the comic it's based on though, it's a great book and though it ultimately has a very different message than the movie so I consider them separate entities entirely, it really is better and more beautiful
But overall just ok, my opinion.
Please watch the DC TV shows
Peacemaker season 1
Creature Commandos season
Peacemaker season 2
CLAYFACE releases this October 23 rd in cinemas
You should also watch blue beetle 2023 . before Man of tomorrow 2027.
I enjoyed it, but it was like a cotton candy movie for me. I had a lot of fun with it, but quickly forgot it when it was over.
Milly is great in the role and I’m glad we’re getting more of her in Man Of Tomorrow. I wish her solo movie had performed strongly enough to get her more solo movies tho. That seems unlikely at this point, sadly.
27:05 The planet with the yellow and green Suns is called Barenton and in the comics it was artificially constructed to contain Superman, but Kara was the one who got caught in it. My only critic for this movie was Lobo he is so powerfull but in this movie he didn’t show off his abilities. In the Krypton scene with Superman's ship, Alura says Jor-El called their son a world-conqueror, so this movie low-key confirms that was actually his dad's original plan for him.
But it didn't stop me from thoroughly enjoying the film.
And I think her killing Krem at the end was the right call. In the comic it's based on she had another option, but in this it was kill him or let him go on to keep hurting people, including Ruthye.
People here saying it’s “overheated” or “underrated” need to further develop their own taste.
2) Man of Steel
3) Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice
4) Justice League
5) Zack Snyder's Justice League
6) Wonder Woman
7) Wonder Woman 1984
8) Deadpool and Wolverine
9) Spider-Man No Way Home
10) All the Mission Impossible movies
I didn't love Supergirl, but it's objectively superior to any of the movies here. I preferred Captain Marvel, though. It's a 5.5 from me
Black and white show from 1950s starring George Reeves was fun when I was a kid (haven’t seen it for nearly half a century, so only reccomended as a deep dive)
Best one is Christopher Reeve Superman 1978
I believe there’s a director’s cut of that and maybe the second one
Third one was an ill conceived mashup of Superman and Richard Pryor that has some good elements
Fourth one was a canon nightmare
The Warner animation stuff, from Batman to Superman to Batman Beyond and Justice League shows is all top notch
While I think Zack Snyder has talents I think his take on Superman is an abomination
Supergirl and Krypto were introduced in the 1940s (or 1950s)
This version of the characters is based on a recent graphic novel ‘Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow’ which is a decent read because ‘drunken wayward supergirl’ is a departure from normal treatment of the character (I actually question the ‘mass market’ analysis that lead to this flick (I like the off color approach, but it seems a risk to resist the traditional brand of the character so heavily)
(There was a supergirl movie in the early eighties (?) that is well worthy of ignoring)
"It's a Khundish dialect. It means 'He who devours your entrails and thoroughly enjoys doing it.'"
Keith Giffen had a weird sense of humor, but he was never entirely comfortable with how quickly fans took this parody of edgy characters as an example of how fun such characters could be.
Very Beautiful Lady, you are such a Beautiful Soul Emme
Thank you for sharing who you are with us
I am truly Blessed and Grateful to know you ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤
I agree with the critics on two minor issues; the fight scenes are not well edited and they're hard to follow, and Lobo appears in clutch and disappears with no rhyme or reason, other than to save the day; he feels more like a plot device than a character.
On the positive side, I liked the story, Milly's acting, the revamping of Kara's story (I never liked the previous story about her being older than Kal-El, but arriving later being younger than him), and the special effects were the same quality as the Superman movie, so as a general appreciation, I liked the movie.
have you actually read any Supergirl comics? She has multiple different origins, including where she's younger than Clark, or only being born after Argo's separation from the exploding Krypton.
Personally, I'm not a fan of her being younger than Clark, but it's definitely not inaccurate, to the comics. Don't spread misinformation, please.
Also, who gives a shit, which movie made more money at the fucking box office lol? box office means NOTHING when it comes to the quality of a movie—all it means is the movie had good marketing.
The only DC Snyder film, that's worth watching, is Watchmen, because it's actually accurate to the comics.
