I used to work at the New Orleans French Quarter location of Tower Video (the video portion of Tower Records) back in the late 90s/early 2000s, so I know that feeling of having people dig a movie recommendation.
The store had three large TVs mounted overhead on which we could run DVDs and VHS tapes. One night I put on the 1974 thriller THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE (which a FANTASTIC movie) which had recently been released on DVD. The movie immediately caught the attention of all of the customers in the video section. Everyone came up to ask me what was playing, so I told them the title, the plot, gave them a little backstory on the picture, and excitedly gushed about how badass the movie was. Within 20 minutes of that movie being on I had rented out both our DVD and VHS copies and sold the remaining copies we had for sale. And for the next couple of weeks the customers came back in and thanked me profusely for turning them on to that movie. Always a satisfying feeling.
