I mean it’s possible that he could fall in himself if he jumps right? Idk I live in the south so something like this is so completely foreign to me

​@TheAxelionoi live in northern minnesota, on the north shore of lake superior... JUMPING ON THE ICE LIKE THAT IS NEVER RECOMMENDED!!! But when it comes to somebody you care about, you'll do anything in that situation and that is the fastest result!

I feel you. I fear being in a situation where someone needs saved (especially a child, my own child...), but not being able to overcome some physical obstacle keeping me from saving them.

His panicked brain fogged. Logic goes out the window.

Shouldnt make logical critiques in life death situations. Emotions override logical thinking.

At least he got the child out, unassisted. Many would just freeze up in fear and helplessness.

​@falco2296You'd actually be very surprised how many people don't freeze and just act on instinct. Or at least that's what we do up here in northern minnesota because if you have good parents, they teach you what and what not to do on the ice! Maybe you didn't have good parents. And you don't know what to do. But I did, and I definitely do. Because I've had to use that knowledge to rescue two people.

A while back? You'd be right, *most* would act.

But, at this time and age? I doubt there's much doer's left.

No need to go further than the young people of now, clueless as a fawn, drooling like a zombie on their phones, worse than crackheads. Get hit or even run over on the sidewalk, unable to look away from their phones.

I'm no scientist, but the fight or flight response's in people are gradually disappearing. People nowadays locked indoors, never going out, doing outdooring, strenuous chores or facing any tense situations are oblivious to acting fast.

Otherwise, you'd be seeing more street/mob justice. Now, robbers or killers do it on the open daylight, a civilian standing 1 feet away scurry away instead of jumping them.
