Who is the Beldam really? 🕷️👀
Coraline gives us just enough clues to make her origins even more mysterious.

In this video you'll see:

🕯️ What the word “Beldam” originally means
⚰️ The strange story about her mother in the novel
🏚️ Why the Other Mother may not have created the Other World herself
🧚 The theory that the Beldam could actually be a Fae
🧙 The possibility that she was once a human witch
❓ Why her true origins remain a mystery

The Beldam's origins are never fully explained, but the original novel contains some intriguing clues. Her name is an old word associated with a witch or an old woman, while her strange comment about having to bury her own mother raises questions about how long these beings can actually live.

Another mystery is her connection to the house itself. The Other Mother apparently cannot create her own world from nothing and instead has to take an existing place for herself. This has led to speculation that the house may have belonged to one of her earlier victims—and that another creature could eventually take her place there.

That leaves two major possibilities: perhaps the Beldam was once a human witch who became something monstrous after spending too long in the Other World, or perhaps she was always a Fae-like creature who has been luring children for centuries.

So what do you think the Beldam really is? 🕷️🧚
