Wasn't just you! I'm also a '96 baby. I've seen the sequel more times than I can count anymore. But I learned the original existed back in high school-ish. The bigger shock to me was learning that Max Goof is one of the few main Disney characters that has a definitive timeline of aging from small childhood to grown adult.

I saw A Goofy Movie when I was a kid, around the time it came out. It made me cry so hard my mom took me out to dinner.

👍 02026/10/02
@d00mYouTube
EVERY millenial and older gen Z loves an extremely goofy movie, it's iconic. Everyone's parents bought it for them st the store because it was advertised to kids on the Disney Channel and parents knew with it being Disney that it was a safe choice. I don't think I've had a single friend that has never discussed or quoted that movie

@IskandrArchiveYouTube
The first one has so much more emotion behind it, the relationship between max and goofy was very relatable to a young boy growing up, it had grit. I liked the second one too but it felt like it leaned a bit further into the comedy and cartoonyness.

I had the opposite thing happen when I was younger. I'd seen A Goofy Movie quite a few times and I was at a friend's place and we were talking about it and they were like "oh yeah, and Goofy had an Afro and they did skate tricks" and I was like WTF? So then they put in An Extremely Goofy Movie.
