It wasn't a dud, the fuse takes a few seconds he just charged on pure adrenaline

👍 292026/10/04

@lolpezYouTube

Ah so what was that plan? What's the advantage of going first and let the others wait for a red smoke?

👍 102026/10/04

@crazyku5548YouTube

Didn't expect the red smoke to take seconds before it's start spreading. In tv series. In book they all start running at same time but by adrenaline and speed winters first reach the line and start shooting.

@trje246YouTube

Why are bayonets always in need of repair? 🤔

👍 382026/10/04

@robhughes3442YouTube

Didn't happen that way in real life according to the real winters.

👍 132026/10/04

@ElleMaloBruceYouTube

What if the entire plan was to fix bayonets?

@Anon_OmisYouTube

So i never understood why Winters ran ahead alone.

👍 52026/10/04

@Anon_OmisYouTube

You're planning for things to not go to plan.

👍 42026/10/04

@mirakhalifa8704YouTube

I believe it did went off but they cut it

👍 22026/10/05

@pbdye1607YouTube

Because the smoke grenade was thrown, he heard it "go off," but never looked back to visually confirm that the smoke had started.

👍 62026/10/05

@Anon_OmisYouTube

@pbdye1607 no i understood that. I'm asking why he made that plan

👍 02026/10/05

@p.n.hajime7633YouTube

My understanding is that, while Winters was sure that no enemy was in-sight, he wasn't sure about the presence of enemy over the top, and whether there was a spotter they haven't noticed. But the engagement the night before strongly suggested that the enemy was SOMEWHERE and somewhere VERY CLOSE.

Three outcome was possible after the charge. No enemy, unprepared enemy and enemy prepared in reverse slope, First two were advantageous, but last could have been fatal especially if they were pushed back and had to retreat across open ground while the enemy pursuit them, shooting from the high ground.

He's plan probably was that he go in alone, look over the top and issue an order from there. If there was no enemy, settle in and re-start reconnaissance from there. If there were unprepared enemy, platoon would deploy and start shooting from there as it happened in the real show. If there were indeed an enemy, they would retreat to their original position using pre-prepared smoke for their cover.

@newera478YouTube

@pbdye1607 But... he was running way before it went off? 🤔

👍 02026/10/05

@The2ndFirstYouTube

Bud ro........that's when things have gone wrong.

👍 02026/10/05

@Elmandcc43YouTube

Winters carried that moment for the rest of his life.
The German soldier was very young and actually smiled.

@adamm4766YouTube

Well, at this point nothing was going according to plan. This was in the Netherlands after Market Garden had failed. Easy moved into an area on “Hell’s Highway” (the name of the strip of road they had taken during Market Garden. Iirc, here they had occupied positions previously occupied by the British, who had essentially done nothing to ensure the line was monitored (very few if any combat patrols, etc…).

Here, the German Battalion which Easy Company ambushed was setting up to attack Battalion Headquarters of the 506th(?) PIR of the 101st Airborne. Essentially they’d stumbled upon a primary element with a vastly inferior force and defeated it decisively. I can’t remember if the German unit was SS or an infantry Battalion attached to a Panzer division, but it was considered a skilled and well equipped unit.

FIX BAYONETS!!!

👍 12026/10/07

@JacobLang240YouTube

@Anon_OmisSo the whole line knows when to charge without yelling and alerting the enemy

👍 22026/10/07

@joshthemhomeYouTube

It could help morale. You would want to chase your commander if they run ahead of your attack.

Uh, actually, it's called "The Perfect Place to Stop Drinking".

The kid shrugged and smiled almost as if to say "You got me."

@rustyshaklford9557YouTube

It's a shame it wasn't the other way around.

👍 22026/10/10

@jaredhubbard9939YouTube

Also in the actual event Winters didn't charge before the rest of his men, they all charged at the same time he was just in such good shape he outpaced his men by a good distance and reached the German line well before the rest of his men.

@sez1785YouTube

No, but TV adaptations are allowed I think to take liberties for the shot and the drama, so long as they aren't too egregious

👍 12026/10/14

@Elmandcc43YouTube

@kathygreca
Winters surprised the soldier who then looked at the American and smiled.
Winters shot the German dead.

Killing another human being can haunt you forever. Especially in this situation.

👍 22026/10/15

@kathygrecaYouTube

@Elmandcc43 yeah i agree, war is hell, dosen't really matter where but respectfully let me ask you, what theater would you prefer to fight in between the two?

👍 02026/10/15

@toldyouso5588YouTube

Maybe the kid smilled because he taught he got Winters outnunbered seeing only him lead the charge.

👍 12026/10/16

@ririondabeat1YouTube

He said he’ll never know why the soldier smiled at him…

That must have haunted him for a long time.

@Widar667YouTube

Running alone without the rest of your troop in a surprise attack does not make any sense, does it?? 🤔

👍 02026/10/22

@smeagolskegels5775YouTube

@ElleMaloBrucethen there was no plan you goof

👍 22026/10/23

@NickKiwiFreakYouTube

Notice how Winter says "Petes sake"? Winters was extremely against profanity and using Christs name in vain. When reading through the script he told Spielberg to remove alot of the profanity, because he said that this series is going to be shown to schools and young adults, and their actions should speak for the characters and not the words they use to sound though.
