How about one where a new, lowest level of development for entry into the federation race starts an aggressive smear campaign against starfleet, most of the other allied planets/races end up turning on starfleet and they get pushed out of the federation. Then turns out through deep manipulation and trickery that the newest least developed member has been pulling strings and corrupting everything the federation stood for but under these guises that helped the other members not see they had become the opposite of what they stood for. Climactic battle comes, starfleet, clearly outnumbered, obviously no chance of winning stands off with the entire federation, pleads they see things clearly, some eventually do but only after a good thrashing, as more start to cease fire, the villains who have manipulated everything without ever firing a shot or giving the direct order, show up with their new unseen tech they've cobbled together from all the races, pissed that there is anyone not just following "the script" and start blasting everyone until they all band back together to defeat the evil that grew among them.

Like Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. No real bad guys. A crew trying to solve a problem of an alien probe looking for Humpback Whales. No true bad guys, no true darkness, but a damn good story.

They were straight into a black hole with the Section 31 movie. We have had enough darkness to last a lifetime.

Ideological bubbles radicalize people and everyone in Hollywood had been in one for decades. They are too far removed from reality to write stories or dialogue that connect with people in the real world.

Kurtzman tried to recreate star trek while ignoring ~ 40 years worth of story telling, thus ruining it.

When you ignore the world building, its a failure.

OR you wait to remake it after everyone who remembers the old trek is dead before you reboot it.

For me...Its about the sacrifice. There comes a point where an officer will have a to make sacrifice. For the greater good? Survival? Their own morality of everything they believe in or behalf of star fleet. Those make the best stories. Thats what Im interested in.

Trek is like Star wars. damaged beyond repair. Star gate is the last one left. The new planned series got canceled because the writers refused to cater to the woke audience. They saved it by not making it.

Yeah, I have not watched the new trek. The people in charge of it now don't know how professionals of an evolved Utopia act like.

It's going to be a tax write-off for Paramount.
This new movie, with a new ship and crew, in a "darker" theme, won't work - the original fans are going to pan it, and it's not going to attract a new audience who don't already have a connection to the franchise.
Star Trek lives on the small screen; that's where we got to know Kirk and Picard and their respective crews.
An (at best) 2 hour feature film doesn't have the ability to develop an attachment to a new crew, where the audience is even partially invested in the event. It works for your typical sci-fi film, but Star Trek is not your typical sci-fi.

I like some of the more recent shows, but i agree 100% about the message of home and a vision of a better future. Not more of the same corrupt evil garbage told in the future.

The only thing that still interests me will be how few watch the trailer. That's where you can measure the level of apathy people have towards the franchise.

Danger with enemies and explosions... We need some torpedoes. That's why the Wrath of Khan was a huge hit, and Star Trek 1 although it made money was not a beloved movie. I think you'll find The Voyage Home was not the highest ranked. We need Klingons or Borg or Romulans or some other definitive bad guy.

We have had enough Dark. We need to go back to the roots of Star Trek and Gene Roddenberry's original ideal of optimism. Real life is so dark right now so we want entertainment to show us hope not despair.

Give Star Trek arrest. It has completely lost the nuance of Jean Rotenberry and has gone over to the dark side.

I firmly believe the movie industry is the one business where the model is they ask what we want and do the opposite.

Hope, esp. hope for a better future is at the core of Star Trek. It's the only shows with the message "we can fix it" and not a dark dystopian future. A future within reach. Maybe not me but maybe for the grandchildren.

When profit is all that’s important to a franchise, that’s when the stories no longer matter. That’s where Star Trek is right now. That’s where many space franchises are right now. That often happens because the steward of the franchise has gone. Without a steward, nothing really matters to the owner except money.
