The great grammar of ARABIC was written by a Persian. 📚😳
🤫 For two centuries after the conquest, almost nothing was written in Persian.
📚 Around 790 a Persian called Sibawayh wrote the first great grammar of Arabic. It was not his mother tongue. It is still the foundation.
🗺️ Meanwhile spoken Persian GREW: the armies marching east carried it into Central Asia.
🔨 And in the 860s a coppersmith turned ruler heard a poem in his honour, in Arabic. "Why are you reciting something I cannot understand? Do it again. In Persian."
