People saying the ring is "all about will" are only kind of correct, there is a whole oath guys about EVIL.

The ring was likely just floating there for a second. They do that in MOST media.

The ring wouldn't choose darksied, he's a murderous evil person.

The green lantern core doesn't allow for unessecarry killing.

So either the creators of the movie just don't understand the green lantern core and WERE trying to imply darksied would be worthy, or it's doing the little bit of floating around it does before zooming off to find its new host.

We never see darkseid use his signature omega beams in this war, so I'm pretty sure at this point darkseid hadn't absorbed the omega power yet so he was much weaker than we normally see him. The omega source doesn't just allow him to shoot omega beams from his eyes it empowers his whole body making him more durable and stronger so at this point darkseid wasn't anywhere near his prime
