MURDER CASE: THE AXEMAN OF NEW ORLEANS | A Nightjar Tales Movie

MURDER CASE: THE AXEMAN OF NEW ORLEANS — the full movie. 🪓

Between May 1918 and October 1919, a nighttime intruder broke into New Orleans homes — usually those of Italian grocers — chiselling a panel out of the back door and attacking sleeping residents with their own axes.

At least six people were killed and many more wounded — and after more than a year of investigation, no suspect was ever charged. The Axeman was never caught.

NIGHTJAR TAKE: The Axeman's most powerful weapon wasn't the axe — it was the letter. One unproven note, promising to spare every home where jazz was playing, turned a string of murders into a city-wide siege. A century later, we still can't tell whether the man who wrote the letter and the man with the axe were ever the same person.
