How do you do 4 movies with someone and not know who they are? 😂🎬🤯

Gwyneth Paltrow has played Pepper Potts in seven MCU movies[reference:2]—yet she apparently had no idea who Tom Holland was.

During a speech at The Hollywood Reporter's 2025 Women in Entertainment gala, Robert Downey Jr. roasted his longtime co-star for being "impossibly intelligent, yet forever confused by the basic tenets of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its inhabitants"[reference:3][reference:4].

He recalled Paltrow once pointing at Holland and asking, "Who's that?" Downey's response: "That's Spider-Man. He said his name was Peter. His character's name is Peter. He's Tom Holland. You've done four movies with him"[reference:5][reference:6][reference:7].

This isn't the first time Paltrow has forgotten her own MCU work. In 2019, director Jon Favreau had to convince her she appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming—a film she initially insisted she wasn't in[reference:8]. She also reportedly didn't recognize Samuel L. Jackson on the set of Avengers: Endgame[reference:9].
