President Ferdinand Marcos lent Coppola real military helicopters for Apocalypse Now, but the Philippines was fighting actual Communist rebels at the time, so they kept getting pulled mid-shoot, one day he recalled all 24 at once. It got worse from there: Martin Sheen had a real heart attack during filming and had to be airlifted to Manila, and the crew told people it was just heatstroke so the already-disastrous production wouldn't collapse. A six-week shoot turned into sixteen months.
