How did a movie make footprints appear in the snow with NOBODY there? 👣❄️
In 1933, Universal's The Invisible Man pulled off one of Hollywood's cleverest practical effects, with no CGI and no computers. The crew cut foot-shaped holes into a wooden platform, plugged each one with a wooden peg, and buried the whole set in fake snow. When the director called "Action!", a crew member pulled a single rope underneath. One by one the pegs slid away, the snow dropped through each hole, and a trail of footprints walked itself all the way to the cabin door.
On camera, it looked exactly like an invisible man walking through the snow.
The trick came from special effects pioneer John P. Fulton for director James Whale's horror classic.
