I haven't seen any comments on this, but I thought it was really nice how her dad saw it as more of an internal struggle rather than her hating Junior's girlfriend for her race. The way he phrased it made it more about the struggle of who she is perceived to be, which we know she's struggled with since she was a kid, if you've ever seen the prequel "mixed-ish" (yes, I know The mother-in-law made a similar point, but it wasn't coming from the same place of love—if you know, you know.)

My mother loved most of my girlfriends. My high-school girlfriend and I more or less lived together sophomore and junior year. She stayed with us Monday through Friday and we stayed at her house on weekends and my mom treated her like a daughter. When we broke up I had a different girlfriend senior year and we literally lived together. We had a little house on the beach with her brother and his friend and another girl, and my mom was nice to her too. I had another couple girlfriend's after her and none of them lasted long so I dont really remember how my mom got along with them. My next serious girlfriend that I had most of the time I was in the army, my mom HATED her... actually... she was also the only white girl I ever dated. All the rest were Hispanic. Maybe this show is on to something. Then my last girlfriend before my mom passed away, my mom loved her too, EXCEPT when we broke up and my mom was incredibly mean to her after that. I think she thought we were going to get married and it hurt her feelings that we did not.

I held these conversations with my sons. Their dad is White. They can Love and embrace his Irish culture, but the world does not see it. They are grown and I have watched them experience the world.

I’m glad They are comfortable with Who they are. Their father loves them but he is not well equipped to discuss these matters. I divorced him years ago and remarried a Black man all of us get along well and we helped them forged strong identities as loving men who accept all of who they are but are comfortable walking through the world as Black men. They have not chosen to date White women. They tend to like black and mixed women.

I actually get not wanting to mix dna with other ethnicities. Not in a racist/hateful way, But in the same way I would not breed my German Shepard with a husky. Both beautiful breeds, but it’s better to preserve their bloodlines. You would have to be a black person who was born before the 70's to truly know what racism is.I am a black woman pushing 60,raised by my black biological parents who were from the South here in the US.My Dad had some stories as he has passed at 92 years old a few years back.Just growing up in the 70's in Ohio was crazy dealing with racism from the white kids during the "busing"era(Google that)was beyond anything I would wish upon my worst enemy.Any white people in this comment section trying to compare racist white people to bias minded black people need to sthd.I said what I said.As much racism as my family experienced(my family was reversed freedom riders"Google" it)in the 60's,70's and even today,we were never taught hate towards anyone.Some of us have biracial children and marriages to this day.There are people I cannot stand white and black and not liking any who happened to be white people DOES NOT MAKE ME RACIST,even if I choose to only associate with people who share my cultural ways and look more like me.It's because it's more familiar and welcoming at times.Racist behavior stems from generational practices from the heart which spews out hate along with separation.I have not met any black people with that mentality in my 59 years.If we stay separated it is not often by choice.Let that simmer.
