This video makes him look like just a regular football player. Not even worth watching if you're not going to tell the true story on how he was able to try out for Philadelphia.

when you get to high level of any field. You can be similar in every aspect but the one you lack. This will be your demise. Work. Harder.

4.5 is good speed, not blazing fast, but enough for a special team role in punt coverage

My grandpa died in June he was a prospect he had a 4.25 yard dash and we was one of the best high school wrs in the nation for that year and in baseball he made all the way to the minors in the 1 division he was almost in the majors but he sadly busted his knee in practice so he could never play sports again

1970's shoes were crap. Choices were few. You'd understand if you lived during those times. Uniform and equipment were crap too compared to modern day football.

i seriously doubt your grandpa had a sub 4.3 dash. These days they use lasers, not stop watches. That 4.25 was probably 4.45-4.5

It was 1976 they couldn't watch any other teams but the Eagles moron there was only 3 television channels back then. He played for 3 yrs and left because he got too old he started when he was 30, a marketing stunt that lasted 3 yrs.

The real Vince Papale was a decorated Track Athlete in college and had already played several seasons with minor league and the World League teams before signing with the EAGLES as a free Agent.
So he wasn't just walking into the training camp off the streets - he'd had playing experience and was being scouted by the EAGLES.

Because it's not super dramatic if they show that Vince Papale was already playing Football with the World League and was a decorated Track Athlete in college.
It's more dramatic to make Papale an 'Average Joe' who tries to fulfill a childhood dream by sneaking into open tryouts for an NFL training camp spot.
The truth is that the EAGLES had scouted him in the World League and invited him to tryouts for the training camp.
They knew he had speed and size (6'2")
Mark Wahlburg is maybe 5'10'' on a good day.

@carljacobson7156YouTube
The Open Tryouts were a 'Marketing Stunt' for the EAGLES
BUT, Papale was already playing in the World League, he was scouted by the EAGLES and secured an Invitation from the team for the Try-outs knowing that he had Speed and Size.
Papale was a scholarship Track Athlete in college.
Papale was a decent Special Teams 'Ace', he didn't have the playing skills to make the starting rotation.
π 02026/10/30
@carljacobson7156YouTube
@robertwood1425 Yes - Papale was a good Athlete and he was already playing for the World League before he got a shot with the EAGLES
Papale was 28 when he was joined the World League - so he was about 30 when he made the EAGLES and 33-34 when he retired.
He was also 6'2'' not 5'10'' like Mark Wahlburg
