Wildwood - 1-Minute Review #wildwood #animation #movies #moviereviews

Wildwood stars Peyton Elizabeth Lee as Prue McKeel, who has a couple of kooky parents and a baby brother who her parents really don’t want to go outside. However, she takes him out anyway and he gets suddenly kidnapped by crows, bet you didn’t think this fun animated movie was going to turn into a Hitchcock film. She and her nerdy not so friend Curtis follow the crows into the impassable wilderness her parents told her not to tread towards, and they find a world of talking animals, brutal violence and a tale of a dead child turning a mother into something terrifying.
You’re not prepared for this film, and I mean that in a whole host of ways. Where to start? It manages to be not what I expected while being good at all of the things I thought. The comedy, that element is truly great, this has cheery fun, great jokes, throws a little bit of silly in among this great big adventure. It’s got insane animation, the visuals are so good, there are very few films you will ever see, for as long as you live, and I know how crazy a thing that is to say. The emotional power? Pretty much to the degree that I feared they might just be able to hit us with, although even with Laika’s history, I’m not sure if I expected the level of nastiness this generated. I mean it isn’t a kiddie film, I knew that was going to be the case, but there are degrees to these things, and this is deeply traumatising.
