There are entire groups of people here on YouTube whose entire channels consist of recording cops in public. It isn't illegal, and you don't have to tell them you're recording.
This is just some TV guy writing a script and not knowing how those laws work. Recording people in public has been legal since the dawn of portable recording equipment.
Police officers ARE public servants.
When the footage goes viral and shames the department, Officer Robb is forced to call, apologize, and agree to expunge Zach's record.
When a police officer does stuff like this it's not always a color thing it's an authority thing.
They want to remind people like us that they have guns they're in control and the reason why they do this cuz people like us law-abiding citizens are an easy target and easy way to make an example.

Recording interactions with the police, in public is protected in all 50 states. If you are writing a story, research it. Don't make things up.
And I'm pretty sure the qualified immunity argument is long gone on this. If a cop arrests someone because they are recording in public, the cop is open to a lawsuit as recording is now a clearly established right.
Why is no one talking about that lmao
Itโs completely legal to record cops.
