In the movies, the hero sprints ahead of a fireball and dives to safety. In reality, CDC guidance says high explosives create a shock wave that travels faster than sound, and sound itself covers about a mile in five seconds (National Weather Service). Near the blast, nobody outruns that. The wave does weaken quickly with distance (FEMA), and CDC notes many bombing injuries come from flying debris, so distance matters more than a dramatic dive.

What Ready.gov (FEMA) says to do during an explosion: if things are falling around you, get under a sturdy table or desk. If it is safe, leave the area as quickly as possible and don't stop for belongings or phone calls. Don't use elevators, and stay low if there is smoke. If you are outside, keep moving away from the area.

This is general safety information. In an emergency, call 911.
