Review: HOPE

Hi

The camera movement makes this feel pretty unique. Reminds me of the opening chaos from Quiet Place 2.

There is a Korean Western that I absolutely love, it's called
The Good the Bad and the Weird!
It's a great movie that I don't hear enough people talk about.

No hope

Seeing it tomorrow, and from what I’m seeing is it really reminds me of the manga Gantz from the “Man vs The Unknown” style of monsters and characters.

This movie was so much fucking fun and the production value beyond the monster vfx were incredible. The car scenes were bonkers and it was hilarious.

The same director made The Wailing, which is a 2 hour 40 minute slow burn horror movie with some pacing issues and a WTF ending, so pretty on par with the director's style. I recommend The Wailing. Very different from what you usually see.

8 of 10?? The movie is awful. Unforgivably long, slow, hyper-repetitive, and makes no sense. It's one of the 10 worst new releases of the 50 I've watched so far this year. Never watching it again. My whole theater was groaning on the way out.

I agree the movie is mostly great with some of the best chase scenes since Fury Road imo. Then the PS2 monsters show up and kinda took me out of it then I rolled with it. The sequel bait ending kinda bummed me out though.

HOPE Movie Review - 2026

• Great first hour the rest are slow. Action packed. Good Cinematography, Camera Angels and Actions. Slow Pacing. Medium Script. A lot of funny moment's and fun characters. Inconsistent Effects/CGI. A lot of Alien lores that cries too cram and explain too much. Obviously introduction/Part 1 and Part 2 it's obvious.

7/10.

great review

Только что посмотрел в кинотеатре этот бред, самое интересное было, когда дед рассказывал о поносе😂

This is such a great movie for me.. The core tragedy of the movie is that human paranoia transformed a crash landing into a full-scale war. Instead of trying to communicate with stranded visitors, the humans treated them as dirty, wild monsters to be hunted, driving the aliens to fight back violently.

Based on the trailer I thought it was a continuation of those movies with the aliens that had super sensitive hearing

I'm the type of person who almost got tired of the action in John Wick 3 (almost), so imagine how I felt when the action went for so long with no real progression that I was starting to get bored.

I have the same issues where the CGI was good in places but PS3/4-level bad in jarring places, as well as the pacing. I enjoyed the first half more than the second. The set destruction was amazing, the stunt driving was decent, but the monsters' speeds were so inconsistent that I was surprised they hadn't caught up yet.

When does it come out

I'll take "bad cgi" for a good story.
The Mummy comes to mind

Gives me A Quiet Place vibes

The worst thing about this movie is how it could have told a complete story. Because the full near 3 hour run time could have easily just been the first 30 minutes. This movie felt like an act one what left you with so many unanswered questions

I don't mind a long run time but 2 hours 40 minutes for this type of film?

Can't wait for this!

don't care what kind of cinematography you have if your monster sucks. Your CGI creature can never be worse than what's in my imagination. Ever.

HOPE you enjoy SUBTITLES 😂

Saw it, I was blown away! Top 5 movie of 2026. Everthing American Hollywood Cinema used to be. The CGI is one tier below norm but didn't bother me. Awesome Movie! Can't wait for part 2!

Hollywood is dying, Asian cinema is coming of age.

7.5 of 10

Just beginning of trilogy. As director Na told, the sequel will be alien’s perspective.

Ramayana is the biggest asian film in this year

The first monster looked like a Titan.

Am I the only one who thinks the thumbnail makes it look like he's holding a large bunny? I figured that was his gimmick - bunny reviews.

I give this movie 5/10. Their are tons of scenes which are not needed or should i say dragging. Car chasing scenes (lots of it actually). The undying main character is so unrealistic. The spaceship that crashed were i was like "what in a plot is this". I know some of the question will be answered on the next movie but its messy to say the list.

I thought pacing was great. The “slower” parts felt intentional to get the audience in a different mindset before changing tempo and going back to the fast pace action scenes.

the plot armor is a gag, tho its a joke about a common trope of this type of monster action movies, and it did it incredibly well all the way into the post credit scene, my theatre erupted. the character in the movie mentions this by calling that guy an action movie star becuase no matter what he picked up he was an expert in it.

Na Hong-jin never fails to amaze me

Great movie

I don't care about CGI. Movie was awesome!

Great movie

This movie turned into a mess, in the second half. 😅

Couldn’t have asked for a better spike free review. I appreciate your way of always distilling entertainment news to its most salient point and injecting it straight into our veins. And (of course) the surname of the director is Na and not Hong-Jin ✌️

I very much enjoyed this film, but like you say, some major flaws, at least by western standards. I feel like there’s a fantastic movie in here, it could just do with some re-editing and some touch ups to the cgi. The sets are great, the tensions great, etc, but I feel like there’s way too many Chekhov’s guns which don’t get used and some chase scenes are reeeeally drawn out. Felt like they were preparing for a sequel, rather than pushing a cohesive story. Overall, still a lot of fun.

A really cool movie. I had a blast. As a cg artist/filmmaker I was pretty surprised, when everything else was top notch, that the digital creatures were a notch or two below standard in integration. Baffling to me that they chose to not render motion blur 100% of the time, it seemed, despite the live action footage all having motion blur. If you want the digital characters to feel like they were shot with the same camera you replicate all elements of the lens and camera properties including the shutter angle. Still, I recommend the film. And yeah super funny too 😂

This Trash Korean cinema at its finest: zero story, zero depth, zero logic, just blood, guts, and pointless brutality. And people actually eat this shit up 😂

I was so taken aback by the creature reveal. It completely changed the tone and scope of the movie and idk if I was into it, but the movie was still really fun

Exactly the ending and cgi is bit lacking but overall movie it’s good

I saw this a few days ago. I am not sure I can suggest that anyone in my life should see it, but there's some really interesting and funny moments.

Freakin enjoyed myself, tge plot armor point is hellla accurate. The CGI is lower than the live action adapatations of korean webtoon sweet home and the manga Attack on titan. The budget was obviously used on the practical effects more. I can confirm the WTF moment at the end, I didn't see it coming. But that last 30 minutes feels like this should have been a prequal to a new franchise.

Better see the dude with the blue jacket in Avengers Doomsday with all that he was doing.

Movie was good a must see film and it was good and shot very well 👍 it was funny and the characters did not annoy me like some films at all

genuinely such a terrible movie, why are so many people hyping this movie up online? i love sci fi action and comedy and im a fan of korean films but this was underwhelming and overrated.

Boring movie

The first act was an absolute tension building master class. Then it went off the rails to be plain weird but so much fun and exciting. Putting aside some of the CGI the whole things was so beautifully shot and really funny.

I really loved it!!! I was trying to find some reviews and people said the director has a satirical sense of humor on Hollywood and writing. I think the American reviews missed that and took it too literally. I found the writing hilarious during the middle and last half like I’m riding on a horse shooting or hanging out of a car window for like 5 minutes. And I was wondering how they had so much ammo 😂 I really loved the movie and didn’t mind it being 2 hours 40 minutes. TBH it felt like 2 movies in one. Part one in Hope harbor about a monster, and part two finding a ship in the woods and the monsters are actually plot twist aliens 😅 which I LOVE ALIENS so I’m not mad. I liked the effects on the monster aliens I thought it was really cool

Too much unnecessary humour, overacting and wasting time

I loved the camerawork sm 😮‍💨🔥

It’s so fucking good! Almost any foreigner move that come in America it’s usually always good. I just hate how some people here in the states are hating on it. This movie is so good looking forward for the next two movie of this.

This movie is almost 3 hours long, honestly there are many things that could have been shortened, please. I saw groups of people leaving the theater without returning to their seats; at one point I had been waiting.

Reminds me of host mixed with ritual. Vibes I mean. I liked it

The only issue CGI in the scenes where the aliens are running but apart from that the movie is without real flaws. The glead character doesn't die after being thrown around for a reason. This guy needed to do some more homework

The action man! The action is awesone!

I saw it today. It's worth watching. I'm waiting for part 2. Make the CGI more realistic.

A lot of fun and completely bananas plants! Overly long but worth seeing!

hahaha agree 100x apparently the guy that was shot multiple times was still recovering. I liked the movie overall with the thriller/suspenseful action scenes and good lineup of actors, but it was sad how lacking it was towards the end

Only problem I saw was the horse wasn't running that fast while the alien was running super fast and still couldn't keep up

Frustrating, inconsistent and LONG movie.

10/10. Laughed my arse off. Very funny. Saw in theatre. The “original Godzilla” of 2026. And the moment when the female deputy arrives on the scene is ab fab fantastic. Make sure you watch to the end BEYOND the credits.

Exactly my thoughts on it..first 30 mins is flawless then it gets a bit tiresome.. it’s 40 mins too long

I almost walked out cause of the cgi but then I realized I didn't care because I was laughing my ass off the whole time

Absolutely agree with everything you said.

We need to look at Narrative Structures as NOT only structured around a THREE PART act! It's just become the most common! So what Na Hong-Jin was doing was subverting the narrative, even though it's a three part movie (well meant to be). Like please research other narrative structures so something like this in future doesn't fly over people's heads!

Also, it's full on Korean display of mixing genres and bending tropes. It's like part mix anime too. Love the plot armours for some, and you know why????? Well, the director is technically trying to tell you something with this decision.

Average movie only last 20 minutes is good

bro that freking blue jacket guy has plot armour i swear

Great film! Want more

Bro the death of sung ki pissed me off so much

only the 1st hour is good, the rest is slop

They could've easily trimmed good 20 minutes and made the screenplay more tighter

Better than anything I've watch in a while from Hollywood, even better than the new Spiderman work, yes i said it.
Here for prt II mhen

CGI didn’t bother me one bit, pacing was okay for a new story being brought to life

I'm going crazy over all the comments. This was easily the worst movie I have ever seen. The story was so weak and the movie just went on and on and on. The first like 30 minutes were promising but it just fell apart when the character just went for 20 minutes without showing the monster. Most of the like 20 people who were in the showing definitely thought the same thing with a few people laughing awkwardly when the movie ended. The two people who I went with also called it the worst movie of all time. Yes, the movie is shot beautifully, the camera work was great. Normally that would lead me to give a movie at least a few points. But the flaws are just so severe that I can't even give this a 1/10.

I'm not critizing anyone for liking this movie, I'm even happy that people were able to enjoy it. The problem for me is just that I wasted both money and time

There's no way you're serious. It's the worst film in years.

this is what cowboys vs aliens should look like.

Sae byeok from squid games lol

I can't wait for the sequel because he left so many variations of what's to come next.
Who is the royal family fleeing another galactic War? Were they trying to invade the Earth? (Not likely) So so many variations that the more I think about it I swear I could create 10 different reasons of what, how and why?

Movie is so Bad it's not good. Lol. I wanted this to be a new favorite foreign creature feature. Instead the worst CGI since scorpion king, and longest dragged out chase scenes with endless character armor. Family is still giving me shit for taking them to this dumpster 🔥

Nah, 7/10

I am on my second attempt at the moment and I can tell you it's amazing
It better have a sequel and it's like attack on Titan but like awesome but damn just they could have made it one more hour longer it would have been perfect

Movie bhuat hi boring hai

It was the most entertaining movie I have ever watched. It was thrilling, funny and scary at times. I loved it.

i did not pick up on alot of the humour on my viewing but reading the comments it seems like there was a lot of commentary/parody going on that i mistook for bad film making. is it possible the cgi was deliberately bad on purpose as a kind of twisted joke? my first reaction to the monster reveal was definitely laughter.

Not gonna lie, I was dissappointed they didn't use the RPG that they've shown in the car. Also it's just my theory but the fact that the Forrest fire in the mountains probably because of the alien too.

BORING AS FUCKK,, I FELL ASLEEP
