Welcome to Pop Culture Brain, bringing you the movie news, TV news, and what-to-watch recommendations you need to know. We’ve got you covered with fun and informative pop culture updates and reflections.

Pop Culture Brain has been highlighting and curating the best and most important entertainment news for over a decade. It was named one of TIME’s Top 30 must-see Tumblr blogs and BuzzFeed’s Top 90 Tumblr blogs, and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Tumblr itself.

I wanted to like it but was pretty underwhelmed, so it's crazy to see Affleck making his own version only a couple years later. And then it, too, is apparently underwhelming. Why do people try to adapt the movie if they don't actually have a good hook for a fresh take? I don't get these big directors who spend so much money to direct undercooked scripts. Just wait until you have something better!!

The 1970s Carrie prom scene always (still does) scared and disturbed me as a kid watching it. Sissy performance in that scene got under my skin

How much garbage does Netflix put out. I can’t anymore. I need to cancel after seeing La Bola Negra.
Also please stop remaking High and Low. Spike Lee messed it up and apparently so does Afflack. Leave it alone.

Thank god I canceled my subscription after stranger things ended 😭 Tubi has better movies

90% of Netflix content is exactly this kind of first draft-easy to do films.

@Nobodyorsomebody.YouTube

I got so many ads for this stupid movie on Spotify.

👍 42026/10/10

@ericrobins5188YouTube

Didn't Spike Lee just do this movie with Denzel Washington an ASAP Rocky?

👍 202026/10/10

@justinbowen2509YouTube

We already had a mediocre high and low remake! If spike lee and Denzel couldn’t make it good I doubt Ben affleck could.

👍 02026/10/10

@kylejohnson4615YouTube

Yup. Neither of these adaptations seem to have been particularly good

👍 42026/10/10

@ImPeterFilmYouTube

Incorrect. Humans don't know how to engage in art. They watch Tiktok over looking at art 🎨 Netflix greenlights what people watch.

I genuinely do not like vertical video formats at all. That being said, your videos are always of substance and you utilize the vertical format perfectly. Your topics are a good mix of currently relevant and evergreen. Keep up the good work Alex!

Guys, you gotta leave High and Low alone, you clearly don't get it.

Denzel just did a remake of High and Low, and we're getting another one? What's with this lack of creativity.

You know that thing everyone says about Ben Afflick, I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire? This movie and his mouth earned that.

@yoshi5I4YouTube

Shame, I think he is a damn good director. High and Low is a great film that we just got an awesome English version in Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest not that long ago, it has Denzel Washington and Jeffrey Wright in top form and ASAP Rocky who I don’t know much about as a musician (what I heard by him I dig but not really my thing) but I was surprised by the acting ability

👍 12026/10/11

@Aron-Plays-f6rYouTube

It's just netflix greenlitting these types of movies and shows.

Mind Hunter wasn't cancelled Fincher got bored and put it on hiatus. Then all the contracts elapsed so now its dead. And Glow was destroyed by Covid.

Didn't spike lee remake high and low last year?

The -puerile- magical Netflix combo:
Strong casting + production values + 💩 scripts and execution.

👍 02026/10/12

@MinosPrimeo7YouTube

@willm127 In what way are they brainrotted?

👍 02026/10/12

@willm127YouTube

@MinosPrimeo7 you serious? People put things on in the background because their attention span doesn’t allow them to sit and focus. They have to be doing something. So they “watch” something as they meal prep, clean the house, etc.

👍 22026/10/12

@ZanneReid27YouTube

@willm127yeah I get the concept of wanting something in the background while doing chores and stuff but like music or podcast exist, thing that are designed so you don't actually have to physically watch, like if I was a filmmaker I would not want people watching my films in the background while they do other things, and personally when I have a good film on I can't do anything else because I am engrossed in it

What happened to movies like Pulp fiction and Wonderland? I've not seen a really good new release in literally years. Even practical magic 2 didn't live up. 😢
