Gunn clears by sheer variety. All the russos have are a cap movie and then basically 3 avengers films. Gunn has made arguably the best CBM trilogy and one of the best trilogies in film history period, then went and did an incredibly faithful R rated DC movie that is to this day one of the best CBMs this decade so far, then made A SHOW that ended up being of the best CBM shows ever made and followed up with a solo movie based on a huge titular character and landed it. There’s really no debate I’m sorry.

A lot of what makes Infinity War, Endgame, Winter Soldier and Civil War the movies they are is the writing of Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeeley. @liongear2867 Guardians 2 is like a less balanced version of Guardians 1. In my opinion, it has higher highs, but also lower lows than the first Guardians. 2 has stronger emotional moments, pretty much all of the characters are deeper and better written than they are in 1 (the scene where Yonduu sees right through Rockets facade and confronts him is a top 10 scene in the MCU for me, and does a ton of leg work setting up the revelations we get about Rockets character in 3). 2 also has a significantly more entertaining villain than 1. Meanwhile 1 has a more tight plot, better pacing, and is generally funnier than 2. The humor is probably 2's biggest problem; it still has some good jokes but alot of them dont land, and the film definitely has a bad tendency to undercut serious moments with jokes in a way that doesn't work, which isn't something 1 is guilty of. I just don't mind as much because 2 does the serious moments better than 1 did, and I care more about that than I do about the funny moments.

While I agree that the Russo brothers have no trackrecord outside thw estabelished MCU... to me it seeems you HEAVILY downplaying the difficulty of pulling off something like Infinity War and Endgame, especially Infinity War.

You say "most toys", I say "most moving parts and stuff that could go sideways".
Infinity War was insanely ambitions and the Russo brothers did a phenomenal job. Nothing James Gun has done touches that level of logistics, which is ehy I have to agree with them. We need to see how Gun does with a bigger more ambitious project with a lot more moving parts and how he blends it all together.

I dont mean to discredit the russos AT ALL either they have absolutely got the sauce for these spectacle films and do a great job at respecting their characters and audience. For me personally though, its not just gunn’s character variety but also the style choices from camera motion to music to writing. Either way im extremely hype for doomsday and cannot wait for man of tomorrow

The MCU had three phases worth of movies to build the universe and get us emotionally invested in the characters, which meant by the time we got Infinity war in endgame, the stakes felt real. I'm sorry James Gunn has always been above the Russo Brothers just based off of the Guardians trilogy. He is clearly the better film maker and has a more distinct style. Almost every bland grey contrast-less film with a massive budget and yet randomly shoddy film making can be traced back to the Russo brothers and their MCU movies.

MCU movies look too bland? Well take one look at Winter Solider and Civil War two films that pioneered that generic blockbuster look.
Not saying I hate their films btw their MCU movies are undoubtedly some of the best in the franchise Winter Soldier is probably the best solo MCU film but as film makers they don't compare to Gunn in my opinion. Infinity war and Endgame are very impressive films especially how they balanced so many characters but man the writing in the guardians trilogy is beautiful. I cried for a cgi raccoon 💔

I personally don’t like … I don’t know how to explain this. I’m an aspiring director and directors is something I look up to and directors usually have a style and some kind of common thread with their movies or you know movies gonna be different when it’s directed by one person versus another. I don’t see any of that with the Russillo. They’re good movies but they’re just superhero movies and like I don’t see any style in them . James gone has a style, but I fear he’s gone so far from it. I think he needs to go back to making regular movies or movies about a superhero. That’s not very popular where you can just make a standalone story for that person and they just feel like a fun edgy cool thing
