Absolutely. Roth screwed him with that bar Risotto meet. All that was staged, even the cop coming in randomly, so Frankie would be left half dead on purpose thinking Michael ordered the hit. Roth had people in the Senate that stuck all sorts of charges on Frankie and a deal was made between Frankie and FBI so he stays in witness protection for testifying against Michael. Roth played it beautifully as Hagen later said.

My father hated the second film. He thought it ruined the greatest film of all time. He did t see that the Godfather was tragedy, the story of an idealist forced to become everything he loathed. He saw the Baptism of Fire and cheered. But the second film turns the original into the second installment of a trilogy - and it showed the outcome of Michael’s decision to step in. Michael became the monster he hated because that’s what the chair demanded. He joined the “family” to save it only to reach a fork in the road where saving “the family” meant sacrificing his own.

@igorstankovicsb It was a pre-Christian paganised Roman republic and then Empire, non-Christian attitudes beliefs customs social mores were radically different and by laying down your own life as a punitive measure for attempting to usurp the consuls or emperor in a failed coup had a flip side: yourvsurvivingbfamily members, wife and children,retained all your land,estates, slaves, possessions, even hereditary titles so taking your own life in such a situation was the honorable way out, a no-brainer

@JakillionYouTube

👍 02026/10/19

@mtutYouTube

@3myway I also suspect that in naming him that, the writers were considering some symbolism around the number 5. The character is a traditionalist, an old-school guy with a soft-hearted kind of nostalgia, who idealizes the way the mob families (the Five Families ironically stand in as "angels") used to operate, where perhaps it was clear who was doing what. His downfall is set in motion when he gets attacked in a false flag operation and he can't see through it in time to realize Michael hadn't really betrayed him; again, because he is living in an imaginary past when things might have seemed clearer. By the time he's meeting with Tom here, he's so confused at what has happened - which includes his own agreement to testify against Michael - he's kind of a lost soul. You can appreciate the character for yourself but I think the name was at least selected to keep the concept of the character in mind - his personality, his fate - when they were writing him into the story. It's a little unusual in the Godfather universe, where the key names are probably based on what village the people came from (this is explained for Vito Corleone nee Vito Andolini) and don't usually seem to have further allegorical significance.

👍 02026/10/19

@DoduyHoang85YouTube

It was a crime they didn't pay him enough to come back for Godfather 3. He was the soul of the movie, he represented the strength of the Corleone family like nobody else. Without him in part 3 mafia lost the class and intelligence
