The first movie premiere was held in an Egyptian-style theater #shorts

Would you go to a premiere in a theater like this?

Grauman's Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, built by showman Sid Grauman, opened in 1922 as an early lavish movie palace. It took 18 months to construct at a cost of $800,000 (about $15.4 million in 2025), and its Egyptian theme was chosen to capitalise on the Egyptomania of the time. It was the site of the world's first film premiere, Douglas Fairbanks in Robin Hood, in 1922. The original house sat 1,771. In 1996 the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency sold the Egyptian to the American Cinematheque for a nominal $1, and in 2020 Netflix bought it.
