It sounds like this was like The Penguin, in Penguin they let him be a villain. Different genre and show vs movie, but still the principle

James Gunn didn't direct this movie, by your logic Supergirl was a failure because of James Gunn
👍 182026/10/22
@Der7masYouTube
@Abrasive_69apparently matt reeves and James gunn have a producer credit on this. And supergirl wasn't bad.

I mean, he had nothing to do with this Movie besides approving it, if we (rightfully) don't attribute Supergirl's Midness to Gunn then we also shouldn't praise Gunn for the things this movie does well (besides the fact he approved the script and allowed it to be made)

The reason they didn’t use Rupert Thorne was because he already appeared in Creature Commandos and he was established to have been killed by Doctor Phosphorus. They totally could have still used someone like Roland Daggett though, especially since he appeared in the episode this movie was inspired by.

Hope we see Hagan’s Clayface again in the future but if we don’t that’s fine too I think this movie works really well as a one off and I think the ending wouldn’t really add up to him fighting Batman in the future so maybe he’ll fight Basil Karlo’s Clayface instead

The people who loved it (puzzling) I think come from 2 camps. The first are paid influencers to endorse it and the second are young movie goers who just don't have the movie knowledge historically to know what a good movie looks like, so they think this is it. I think the box office shows it's another Gunn DC Bomb.

@TheCrazyfighter19 I think that’s even better, he tows the line between righteousness and myopic vengeance a little too hard, and finds himself over a fence he can’t climb back over. Between a combination of his sloppiness in his crimes and the unforgivable things he does, he finds himself in a sort of sunk cost fallacy, which he leans into, thus bringing him to villainy

I don’t think it should be compared to Sonys villain movies, even though you made your point that those movies are trash compared to this one. This should actually be compared to Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker from 2019 in that it’s structured in kind of the same way, where we have a tragic origin story of a comic book villain that’s initially more of a victim to his surroundings than anything else.
