TANGLES is The Animated Movie That Might Break Your Heart #tangles #shorts #movies

TANGLES might be one of the most emotional animated movies you'll ever watch! 🎬💔

The upcoming animated movie TANGLES (2027), featuring Seth Rogen, Bryan Cranston, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Abbi Jacobson, is bringing a deeply personal story about Alzheimer's disease, family, love, and memory to the big screen.

But this isn't your typical animated movie!

In today's YouTube Short, we're exploring TANGLES, the beautiful hand-drawn animated drama directed by Leah Nelson and based on Sarah Leavitt's acclaimed graphic memoir, Tangles: A Story About Alzheimer's, My Mother and Me.

With its distinctive black-and-white animation, incredible voice cast, and powerful emotional storytelling, TANGLES could become one of the most memorable adult animated films of 2027.

🎬 WHAT IS TANGLES ABOUT?

TANGLES follows Sarah, a young artist and activist living in San Francisco during the 1990s, whose life changes when her mother begins experiencing the devastating effects of Alzheimer's disease.

Returning to the small town and family she once left behind, Sarah finds herself navigating the emotional challenges of caregiving, complicated family relationships, and the heartbreaking reality of watching someone she loves slowly lose their memories.

But TANGLES isn't simply a sad movie.

Through expressive hand-drawn animation, dark comedy, and deeply human moments, the film explores how humor, love, and resilience can exist even during life's most difficult experiences.

It's an animated family drama that reminds us just how powerful storytelling through animation can be.

🎭 TANGLES MOVIE CAST — WHO VOICES THE CHARACTERS?

TANGLES features an incredible ensemble of recognizable Hollywood talent:

Abbi Jacobson as Sarah
Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Midge
Bryan Cranston as Rob
Seth Rogen as Zach
Beanie Feldstein as Hannah
Samira Wiley as Donimo
Sarah Silverman as Sukey
Bowen Yang as Dale
Wanda Sykes as Paula
Pamela Adlon as Debbie

Seeing comedians and dramatic actors come together for such an emotionally complex animated film makes TANGLES particularly intriguing.

🎨 WHY TANGLES COULD BE A MUST-WATCH ANIMATED MOVIE

Unlike traditional mainstream animated films, TANGLES uses predominantly black-and-white, hand-drawn animation to explore complicated emotions, family memories, and personal identity.

Directed by Leah Nelson, the film adapts Sarah Leavitt's graphic memoir into an intimate cinematic experience that blends adult animation, drama, and dark comedy.

TANGLES made its world premiere at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival and was also selected for the Toronto International Film Festival.

The film offers a reminder that animation isn't just for children. It can also tell mature, personal, and emotionally challenging stories in ways that live-action filmmaking cannot always replicate.

If you're a fan of emotional animated movies, independent films, graphic novel adaptations, and meaningful storytelling, TANGLES deserves a place on your movie watchlist.
