I’ve never understood how the Avengers won Age of Ultron. They obliterated an entire city. Of course Ultron would have destroyed the city and the entire Earth along with it if they hadn’t destroyed it first, but that doesn’t mean that they won - it means that Ultron won the moment Sokovia got a few metres off the ground. Either way he achieved his goal of mass destruction and genocide - just not mass extinction.

Because the win condition was never “prevent Sokovia from being used as a meteor”? They didn’t even know about it until before it happened, they literally didn’t have time to prevent it from happening, that’s why the wincon was “prevent Sokovia from hitting the surface”, because by the time they arrived that was the only possible route.
Plus it’s not like they can just waltz in a figure out how to stop it, Ultron was actively stopping them from doing so, so saving Sokovia was impossible.
