@Rea@RealSocrates-ah. I agree, But it’s not why she’s upset that’s the problem, it’s how she responded. And how she responded reflects upon why the daughter didn’t wanna communicate her problem with her. She doesn’t trust or rely on her mother and that reaction showed exactly why.

It seems her daughter has a judgment complex severe enough to prioritize people’s opinions over her own well being which probably stems from her relationship with her mother. Plus she rudely dismissed the people who supported her child in their moment of need.

Ive never heard of something so stupid...a potato?! Ok lets suppose she did have a talk with the mom. Some parents refuse to see that their children have grown up into maturing young adults. In this case yes looking at the moms perspective, i see strangers over my daughter and id be worried too. Especially given the humiliation of finding out she was engaging in some sort of sexual conduct whether to herself or not. Id be embarrassed my daughter didnt feel like she could come to me about it. Also the fact my mother was so protective of me she didnt want to believe i was getting older either so i can see the moms side of things but also the daughters...

back in the 90s when I was in school you had to have a permission slip my grandmother refused it but the next day she took me to barns and noble and got me the American girl book called how to care for your body and put me in my room alone and let me read the book and told me if I had any questions I could ask her and she would explain it i was way too embarrassed to ask my grandmother so I asked my aunt and she explained everything to me anyway I understand not wanting your kids to get sex ed at school because some kids are not mature enough to understand these things yet and sometimes there like me and extremely shy and reserved so it’s best to wait until you know that they can handle the conversation buy them a book about there body and tell them if you have any questions ask there is no need to get upset about it though now I would be very angry if my daughter was having sex as a teenager I think abstinence is what should be taught and it should be explained that sex is special and should not be given to everybody

Abstinence only sex ed leads to teens not knowing what is going on with their bodies and not fully understanding sex. Sex ed should be something that begins at home in an age appropriate manner (for instance toddlers should know the names of their parts) abstinence should absolutely be encouraged but consent is also something that should be taught. Too often boys pressure and pressure and push and girls aren't taught that what the boys are doing isn't ok

What's with American media trying to make parents look evil every chance they get? You almost always see good parents in movies at most. Some handful of shows at best.

Also, I get why the mother is upset. In a normal scenario, she'd probably get the girl to a hospital, once she cooled down from the initial shock. That being said, a medic can at best recommend medical action and she should've done that first, instead of trying to undermine the parent. In a normal scenario, that would've led to the parent listening more often, than not. Instead, the parent felt attacked and lashed out at anything that came after in a moment of shock.

This was a real case in my country, when sex education laws didn't exist here. She was a teenager from a very poor household, she used the potato because someone, I think the mother but I am not sure, told her to use it to avoid been pregnant. The girl left the potato there anf cause of the humidity it began to grow. She was treated succesfully at the hospital.
