DON’T LET THEM ERASE THIS HISTORY - BLOOD AND SAND #bloodandsand #arab #east #slavery #africa #slave

We learned the names of European slave ports. We learned the ships, the plantations, the Atlantic routes and the empires that profited from them. But ask the average African to name the markets, caravan routes and ports that moved enslaved Africans across the Sahara, through the Red Sea and into the Indian Ocean world, and suddenly the room goes quiet. Ask why. That silence did not happen because the suffering was insignificant. Africans were captured, marched, sold, absorbed into households, forced labor, military service and concubinage, while some males were MUTILATED INTO EUNUCHS and countless others vanished into societies far from home. Yet this chapter remains dramatically less familiar to many Africans than the Atlantic story. And the moment you bring it up, somebody immediately screams, “YOU ARE ATTACKING ISLAM!” No. We are not attacking a religion. WE ARE REFUSING TO LET RELIGION BECOME A SHIELD AROUND HISTORY. Faith does not require historical amnesia. If Christian Europe participated in slavery, we name it. If Arab merchants, Muslim-ruled states and Eastern markets participated, we name them too. If African collaborators helped, we name them as well. Nobody gets immunity because millions of people today share their religion, ethnicity or culture. Blood and Sand is about forcing African memory to face every direction. We cannot claim to know our history while entire routes of African suffering remain outside our classrooms, outside our conversations and outside our outrage. If the Atlantic deserves to be remembered loudly, then the Sahara, the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean deserve memory too. We are not attacking belief. WE ARE ATTACKING SELECTIVE MEMORY. #uyiosael
