I absolute hate what they did to Lt Dike, who btw, earned TWO BRONZE STARS! Winters hated Lt Dike, and they relied almost entirely on Winter's account of what happened, so they made Lt Dike look like an incompetent coward, when he's a legit war hero!

Justice for Lt Dike! Lt Dike earned TWO BRONZE STARS for VALOR in WW2. He was a legitimate war hero, a competent leader, and not a coward. They disparaged him just because Winters worked on the production and he hated Lt Dike.
They disparaged Sobel the same way , who jumped into enemy territory on D Day, and led his men to destroy a machinegun nest.
It makes for good TV, but those men didn't deserve to have their names ran through the mud like that! Especially not calling Dike a coward, when the production crew apparently couldn't even do a little research and find out he was actually a legit war hero.

@bobbygetsbanned6049the point is that by this point Dike should have been taken off the line to at the very least company office/command. No american in the nineteen forties used the phrase ," a coffee".
One of several linguistic errors in the band of brothers that shows the actors were not american.
In the 1940s, someone would have said. Can I get you a cup of coffee or simply can I get you some cof.
Damien Lewis is British as well as half the actors playing americans.
There's a few other linguistic errors throughout the series , but it doesn't change the excellence or quality of the storytelling.

Know this: Ambrose has been called out for taking liberties in his book and favoring one person’s account while omitting other conflicting accounts.
Now compound that with a movie studio’s liberties to make a great series.
In reality, Winters simply did not like Dyke, so Winter’s opinion is relayed into the plot. Notice how Winters, in interviews, can be sort of a hardass where the actor was soft and gentle. In the series, Dyke is portrayed as freezing up at Foy, but in reality he was shot in the shoulder near the haystack and had to be evacuated out. Conveniently omitted in the series, right? That’s why Spiers was sent in to relieve Dyke.
Winters made calls for Dyke not to return once healed, so Dyke was assigned as an aide to the 101st Div commander, Lt Gen Taylor. Dyke also served in Korea. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel earning two Bronze stars, but we all know how officers love to award each other medals.
I’m not saying Dyke was good, just citing this as an example of Ambrose only going with Winter’s version.

Idk, but I don't think he was hated by anyone except Winters. We don't have his side of the story because he passed away well before the series was made. They also disparaged Sobel, who jumped into Normandy on D Day, led his men to take out a machine gun nest, and was a competent leader.

uh yep I saw a few trash during 40 years.... Then let me ask: did you watch the whole series? The whole you know, not ChatGPT summary or some shorts?

So explicitly then for Transformers fans why I think this whole is a good series.
Things are not just explode, and the whole is not about destruction, it is about development.

This series has real story - close to real, it's documented.
The solders talk before each episode is so good!
The movie has man-to-man jokes all around.
BUT it keeps the tension all the way in every episode.
Like in this speach there is a big tension with the possibility of tragedy. More over if the watcher just try to feel what some main character felt in some situations it is great at all.

Correction then:
Best WW2 movie ever.

I hope it is okay for you now :)

People are rightly talking about how the portrayal of Dyke wasn't accurate. However, I would like to add something to that. Dyke was added to easy company to get more combat experience and to progress his career. So the men didn't like him because they thought he didn't want to be there and treated the company like a means to an end and made no effort to engage with them. BUT easy company at this point were very close and were known not to be very welcoming to newcomers and replacements so Dyke spent a lot of time at batallion hq with his buddies, which further increased the men's dislike for him.
