Sony is trying to create an artificial ‘Barbenheimer’ where they don’t have to share half the boosted box office with another studio. Which could work. I do think if they’d spread it out they’d risk audience exhaustion by movie four, especially if one doesn’t live up to whatever bar the previous one set. But four movies at once is a lot to ask people to watch in small theaters and in this economy. I think this concept could work, but only with two or three films.

I think it would be smart to make the movie in which your initial ticket offers you a coupon discount for the next movie and so on. Often getting a discounted rate brings people back even if they weren't blown away by the initial event.

Given the significant overlap in production between the movies, I doubt it’s possible to know the exact budget of each one. If they are forced to report a collective budget, then it would see fair to combine the box office numbers also.

Her strategy works… the movies are good and don’t jeapordize the success of the next one, and based previous track records, they aren’t willing to take the chance. They want to make as much as they can as fast as possible

Credit where it's due, Sony does put out a lot of pretty bold experiments more so than any other Hollywood studio. And this one is no different, still though the idea of all movies being released the same month is so crazy that it's a complete gamble, I'm here for it though cause that's sounds insane which I have to respect.

They're definitely not looking to entice any casual fans and I don't see anyone who doesn't know The Beatles- is going to be excited to do this... even if it is The Beatles... and don't get me wrong here I'm a huge fan.... but it would attract a very niche audience, in my opinion. Release
it through the year... imagine THAT marketing budget. 😮

It's such a stupid strategy, they'll oversaturate the market and eat into each other's business and it guarantees at least 2 of them will bomb. They should stagger the releases every 2-3 months.

I don't think it will matter. It may be 4 movies, but the combined budget for all 4 won't be more than the cost of 2 mid budget films and the print and advertising costs will be the same as a single film.

It makes total sense to treat this as a single project with 4 different versions of the film.

Combining their box office reports is surely just to hide how much worse the Ringo and George movies will do than the John and Paul movies right? I feel like it's surely some kind of tactic like that because it's just a fact who the objectively more famous and popular half of the group are regardless of how justified anyone individually thinks that is

I feel like this is a "once-and-forever-proof-who-is-the-favorite-Beatle" gimmick which they will point to those numbers... we all know everyone is going to see the John one first. Unless, they are "saving the best for last" but I feel like most people will pick their favorite for theaters... then watch the others streaming. So, I guess I will see some of you in George's...

This is a great opportunity for an indie or smaller film studio to make a Pete Best film.

We all know about the Beatles but it's also interesting to hear about the life story of the poor guy who was THIS close to becoming an international superstar and who by all rights kind of deserved at least some success after having spen t years working hard playing multiple sets each night with the Beatles in a dodgy club in the then seedy city of Hamburg for like 5 years straight.

I love the Beatles and their music but it was very cruel of the other 3 members to just cut Pete Best out like that. If there are alternate universes out there there's probably at least one reality where they're the "Fab Five" or at least "the Fab Four plus their occasional songwriting partner Pete Best" instead of just the Fab Four.
👍 22026/10/21
@SurprisinglyDeep
@SurprisinglyDeepYouTube
Yeah maybe they should've just done 3 films in succession like "part 1 the Beatles the early years" then a year later "part 2 the Beatles the glory days" and then a year later "part 3 the Beatles the final years the band was together and a bit of what they did after the band split up".

Obviously someone could think up far better film titles and it might be better if it was just like "part 1, part 2 and part 3" but I'm sure you all understand the "titles" were descriptive.

Alternatively maybe the studio should work with movie studios to offe r like a discoun t to film-gowers who bu y tickets to all 4 films at once or something like that.

What other experiments did Sony do? I don't doubt you per se but I just can not think of any unless you mean like "the 2 animated Spider-man films with the 3rd coming soon" but Kung Fu Panda and How To Train Your Dragon had already proven kid and teen movie goers are down for "heroic animated trilogies"

Im guessing Sony doesn’t care about the box office as much as it may seem. They probably have a few people at the top who want to push all four movies to streaming as soon as possible bc it could make them more money. Releasing them one a quarter makes the most sense to me so either Sony is really make a dumb risk or there’s a few people who are gonna make a lot of money
👍 42026/10/21
@BNBarbarous

@QuantumCat91They are filming them simultaneously, not one after another. Do you seriously think the hundreds of people working on those movies are being given 4 separate salaries? Do you think that they signed two separate salaries to film in a specific location, just because some scenes are being used in different movies? They’ve only ever announced that the budget for the entire project is 400 million, which is roughly 100 million a film. There are no unique estimates for each film. That tells me they haven’t even bothered to do the accounting separately.

Of course, and it’s brilliant. The fact that there will be so much controversy over which movie is doing better, ESPECIALLY between John and Paul’s movies will just force all of the fans to go out and support it in droves. And the major box office trend of the last few years is that audiences want a reason to go suffer at the theater when they have effectively just as good entertainment systems at home now and infinitely more comfortable and convenient. So if they can make this an contest and make it something where you don’t want it spoiled for you then they will have a major box office hit, and the theaters are incentivized to give them as many screens as possible because every gap in between movies is another opportunity for them to sell candy and novelty pop corn buckets etc. This is going to make so much money. And packaging the Ringo and George movies alongside john and Paul and I’m sure they will stagger the films so you have to see Ringo and George before you go see Paul or John, is another way to effectively make viewer spend 4 times on the same story. Is it deeply manipulative, yes. Is it brilliant movie packaging and eventizing, also yes.

If you spread them out you kill the later movies, some of their biggest moments especially in the early parts of their lives were together, you can't get an audience to enjoy those moments across a 4 month period over and over, there is no real answer, but I think by releasing them together the discourse can really carry them, someone makes a point from lenon's perspective and the counter goes oh but Paul was coming from this perspective, you have to watch the Paul movie to judge his reaction. Depending on how they've worked out the screenplay they can get a frenzy going for a month.

My guess is they planned for it to be one movie but they decided later to split it up, the beginning and ends of it will have the biggest differences between them while the middle of it while the band is together will be mostly the same. Possibly using different camera angles so it looks like we’re seeing it from a specific Beatle’s perspective.

@QuantumCat91 you have no idea what you're talking about buddy. i don't think you understand the concept of the project at all. it's four separate movies being filmed and released at the same time, telling the same general story from four unique perspectives. the production of the four movies is so closely intertwined that you can't separate the individual cost of each movie (and it would be pointless to do so). the most comparable previous film project with multiple movies being filmed at the same time is probably Peter Jackson's LoTR trilogy. in fact, the estimated budget of each individual LoTR movie is literally just the budget of the entire film project divided by 3, and the situation for these Beatles movies is the exact same except with 4 movies being filmed simultaneously instead of 3.

Sell a ticket package that will give you access to all 4, and make it non transferable. Then spread the releases out to 1 every quarter, in increasing order of each member’s popularity. George first, then Ringo, then John, and finally Paul. Schedule it so all 4 movies are released the same year, and the McCartney movie will be a holiday season classic. In this way, all 4 will be competing in the same Academy year, so they can dominate the nominee fields across the board.

We can't really watch all 4 movies at once. I might watch it while I'm in college, but damn.

I also would have done three months. I would have released the John Lennon biopic in December. I am not sure how they are filming the biopic but I would assume they are doing life before the Beatles, during and afterwards.
Release this on streaming platforms and then you can release them all at once.

Consecutive weeks would have been a better strategy. That way at least two are playing most weeks, but they don’t open against each other. They could have made a pun off “8 days a week” too.

Imagine they are all perfectly in sync chronologically so if you were to watch them all at the same time, whenever they are together you get each ones pov of the moment side by side

This lineup of the Beatles only worked together for just over 8 years. For context that's the amount of time that's passed since infinity war, and less time than was between iron man and infinity war. What an impact. 13 studio albums. Ringo had just turned 30 when they broke up.
