Absolutely breathtaking
- Has a human drama that really compliments the Godzilla Minus duology, and focuses on the human drama more than having it be just an excuse to have human characters do something other than stand there filling in the gaps before the best monster clash (this is perhaps the best kaiju movie in that regard even when compared to all of the Japanese movies as well)
- It uses music well... its loud, but its haunting. Its not bombastic or celebratory. There's a sense of dread and tension in the soundtrack.
- Speaking on bombastic, the film also holds each frame, so instead of vast number of cuts or camera zoom. It also gives both Godzilla and Ghildorah realistic movements and more importantly weight, they aren't super quick, but they move well enough you feel the impact of their moves.
- Military tactic. Just like Minus Zero, Shin Godzilla, the original Godzilla movie and Gamera 2: Attack of the Legion (one of the best implementations of military in a kaiju movie), they really plan the attacks well, its the focus of the scene rather than just mindlessly showing off military hardware and blowing shit up.
I definitely would watch this again soon, its incredible.
P.S.: try to watch the hindi version as it's overall a better experience than the English version
I will say, however, that the aerial sequences might be the best I've seen in ANY movie, period. Just visceral and thrilling. More importantly, Yamazaki clearly has a lot to say about war (not just in his Godzilla movies), which is what so many directors (especially American ones these days) lack... a substantive viewpoint and something to say. Everything emanates from that viewpoint, which is what makes it powerful.
So its so good that when it's not it's just better than above average?
Loved the movie, better than any US has done. But the ending fkn sucks!!!!!! Japan focuses the fight on the ground where the US dropped cowardly the bombs. Why, fkn why not? If the Japanese were able to drag Godzilla to Ghedora, why, the fkn why, didn't Japan use it to bring both Godzilla and Gedhora to US as revenge and leave the two monsters there? Since Japan has done nothing to punish the US for the Nk bombing, at least in film Japanese could get their justice and satisfaction, just like the scientists dreamed it..?
Is this movie dubbed in English, or is it in Japanese with English subtitles?
Writitng was sub-par, very disjointed, some parts taken to almost cartoon like preformances.
On the plus side. Well acted, looks beautiful, and the score was great.
I highly recommend you take 2 hours of your day and watch this film if you ever get the free time, just please give it a try. You don't even have to go to a theater, just wait until it comes out on digital
It's absolutely epic
Ghidorah’s gold ranged attack is not electricity.
It’s weaponized gravity.
They’re called gravity beams!
Hope that helps :)
Not enough monster action.
The final fight was a dud, a let down.
Godzilla was no match for Gidhora.
Godzilla gets knocked out early in the fight and left for dead by Gidhora.
I was expecting a lion on lion dragged out fight. NOPE!!!!!!!
So disappointed.
