Arab travellers reached the Islands after 2,500 years

Arab travellers finally reached the islands after 2,500 years. The Maldives is an archipelago in the Indian Ocean, southwest of India. Its chain of 26 atolls stretches across the equator. Documented contact with the outside world began around 947 CE. The islands had been inhabited for over 2,500 years before that. Malé, the capital, was traditionally called the King's Island.
